Drew, there is no way to quantify just how far you have advanced the reputation and performance of these cars, but I hope you sleep easier knowing that it is by leaps and bounds.
Its absolutely insane that you are offering *Your* aero package to the community. equally ridiculous that you are doing so at that price. Most would guard the secrets of such costly development with the lives of poorly paid security guards.
the vast development gap between 'our' cars and evo/sti's and the like, grew a little smaller when you decided to release that design. I sincerely hope that you will hold onto those molds and consider (on a case-by-case basis of course) releasing individual 'kits' to campaigning track teams. That would be an immense help to future teams. being that you have already recouped the cost of the molds what could it hurt to leave the door open if a just cause was found.
I understand what you are saying with the costs of correctly making that hard top work on a street car. I do think there is a fair market for a similar design for street going spiders. look at what miata guys shell out for a good hard top, let alone a functional one. To me your roof is really the first time i have found spider's side profile attractive with the top up. sadly i think you may be correct about having to sacrifice the function of the design to sell a street version, very few if any would want the hard core track version of your hard top. even if it performs even better than it looks.
I hope the risk for people creating a knock off is a little decreased by the aggressiveness of this kit. plus if a person were too cheap to buy this kit made properly they would likely be too cheap to spend an additional large lump of change on 295's and matching wheels. I hope anyway.
I assume you are unfamiliar with the TRD2000GT kit which was offered for the mr2. Not nearly as functional as yours but more or less the only functionally designed kit offered for the car with the R&D backing of TRD. It was a very limited production kit, and it was discontinued long before the demand for it ever peaked. So it was obvious to anyone with greater resources than morality that there was a good deal of money to be made. Anyone seeking that kit now can shell out serious coin for a really poorly produced knock off and often because of the cost of fixing a poor fitting kit people spend more than they would have on a real kit. Anyway the point is just about anyone wanting functional Aero on those cars would rather buy from the original producer but cant, chances are if TRD still offered the kit there would probably be no knockoffs at all.
I will sleep a little more soundly knowing that at least 5 of your little monsters will be running around causing the competition to loose sleep trying to figure out how those #*%#!! dsm's got so much quicker.
-Cheers!
