hi im attempting to swap the 7bolt 4g63t from my 97 gst to a 1g 6 bolt 4g63t im wondering if theres any thing i need to change between them or any thing i need to take into concentration when swaping also my trany is automatic the 1g i got is set up for a manual what will i need to make it work or do i need a new trany any help would be greatly appreciated

A 2G block does not have provisions in place for the 1G engine mounts. In short, you will have to make custom front and rear engine mounts somehow. The transmission may can help or add to this problem. If the automatic transmission is a 2G unit, you can utilize what would be the original mounting points on the 2G car for the custom mounts you must still make. If it is a 1G unit, strictly speaking on terms of mounting and not electrical/wiring or control and operation, you will have a far rougher time making adequate engine mounts.

It won't be easy and it will take loads of time and thought to work this out.

its a 2g tranny and i have the motor mounts from the 1g to go with it can i use them to bolt on or will i still have to fabricat new ones will the 2g automatic hook up and work with the 1g engine

Just so we're on the same page, you are looking to take your engine from the '97 and put it into a 1G car with the 2G transmission, correct? If that is not the case, please clarify. If it is, read on.

This has been beaten to death: a 2G has three mounts on the transmission and one on the engine; a 1G has three mounts on the engine and one on the transmission. Yes, the 2G transmission will bolt up to the 1G engine, but you will not use all the bolt holes on the transmission -- which is fine. The mounts on the 2G transmission do not line up with the mounting points on the 1G car. Regardless of having the 1G mounts, you will need a custom mount for your 2G transmission (front) to the original mounting point on the 1G car.

Again, this does not even begin to account for wiring up the transmission, changing the shift linkage or pedal assembly. You will also need to consider what to do with the CPS and CAS on the 2G engine as these are combined into one sensor in the 1G cars.

OK another problem i don't know what 4g63 i have. none of the numbers iv pulled off the engine match to any code i can find the only codes or engravings i can find on it are mp3816y4 and91 k15 nw also i was told it was a 4g63t but there are no oil return lines in the oil pan and idk where the oil sending unit is can i still turbo it or did i wast my money and if it can still be turbocharged what will it take to do it. There will probly be n/a pistons in it. It is a 1g

Look here for the location of the VIN on the block: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/cylinder-head-short-block/390960-block-identification.html#post152446420

Get that number and decipher it using this: Decoding VINs

The 8th digit will tell you whether the block is turbo or not. If it isn't, you will need to read into this in addition to the 6-bolt swap material: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/1g-n-t-tech/157911-how-turbo-your-1st-gen-2-0-nt.html

In my opinion, it was only a waste of money if the original 7-bolt engine you had in the '97 is in acceptable working order.
