I have a 95 GS-T, as of right now it is pretty much stock, I have cat back exhuast and thats pretty much it. I have $2500 That i can put into it, but I cant decide what to do. I want someting that spools up quick but still has good power up top. Im thinking about a down pipe, 16g or the slow boys racing .50 trim + supporting mods, intake, and maybe a FMIC kit if I can afford it. Does anybody have any good suggestions on what I should go with or anything I should add to the list? Thanks allot.

Well... If you want to use the full potiental of any turbo you need to fuel upgrades to back it up. A wallbro 190lph will do, but if you go with a 255 an AFPRshould be used. Then you need to let it breathe. Aka Turboback exhaust. Hardpipe intake with a K&N drop in. Along with a boost controller, and boost gauge. (These numbers are also if you do the install yourself) Then some means of tuning devise. And about the FMIC, with those mods alone you will not have enough left over for any decent FMIC unless you go with the Ebay special. Sorry if the prices are a little off. Up here in Canada the prices are different eh.
EvoIII 16G- $595
Downpipe- $195
Catback Exhaust-$450
Fuel Pump- $109
AFPR- $120
Injectors -$350
Boost Controller -$50
Cold Air Hardpipe -$85
K&N drop in -$35
MAFT + Logger- $525ish (There are several other ways to tune, this is just a popular one)

That total is 2514$ Not including tax, shipping, misc parts.

I understand that tuning is important, but DSMLink as a first mod? WTF How about a boost gauge, controller, freeing up the exhaust path, higher airflow intake, etc. as first mods.

The tuning guide will answer your questions.
http://www.dsmtuners.com/tuning-guide/2gturbo/

You can't jump to a bigger turbo and a downpipe without having other mods in place. You can but then you'll be running close to stock boost without any supporting mods.

Another thread you need to read. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showpost.php?p=731471

"1. Big turbos - not a good first mod
Most newbies come in and immediately want to know what the biggest turbo is that will fit on their car. They think that it's the biggest single power adder they can install. That is false. You can not add a larger turbo to your system without adding several other parts first. If you do so without adding the appropriate modifications, the turbo will not give you any more power than you already have. In fact, your car will run even worse until you add all of the necessary supporting mods. On the flipside, if you add the proper supporting mods first, the car will have significantly more power without even touching the turbo."

If you don't want to encounter knock, you will need a FMIC or a bigger sidemount at higher boost.

Thanks for the replies, but I forgot to mention that the reason I want to upgrade my turbo is becuase my stocker is blown. I wasn't planning on upgrading for a while, but since I would have to buy another stock one I mine as well upgrade it now.

You can pick up a used T25 for about $200. With the Evo III turbo, you'll need an install kit too.

Ok what about this, the evo3 with the install kit $800 give or take, Walbro 190 fuel pump $85, SBR FMIC kit $880 and DSMlink I'm not shure on the price but I was told that it was around $500 so if thats true would that be a good sutup for now? All that would be around $2300

Thanks

http://roadraceengineering.com/2gupgradepath.htm .....what turbo, decisions decisions....make sure its not your first mod. Bad bad idea...I know alot of newbies are really eager to get going and go fast. The problem with worrying about that is you need the supporting mod's in place to take advantage of it. Or you run the risk of actually making the car run worse. Read and research carefully before you start spending money so you have the performance that you desire in the long run. Knowledge is power, probably even more so in the DSM community then any other out there.

Knighteclipse If you had $2500 what would you do to your car with that money?

I would say buy a 14b, they are cheap used and also spool up quickly.
Also, realizing you have $2500 to spend that i'm sure is burning a hole in your pocket, I would buy a decent suspension setup.

With all the speed you're wanting to make you'll need a car that can handle it.
Also some decent tires are a great first upgrade as well, really help you hold the power down to the road.

Also have you thought about the tranny? I looked at your profile but I see no tranny mods. The stock clutch, yours probably having some wear, isn't going to last long with 16g, high boost etc. An ACT clutch or something similar, new, will be around $400 and you may want to look into one of those if you're going to be going for higher power.

Once you start adding power to these cars the more stuff breaks.

With a 14b and MBC, intake, perhaps fmic and dsmlink you could create a lot more power than you currently have with a proper tune.

Good luck with whatever you buy!

Brian

I think you need to set some clear goals up for yourself. Are you trying to make a certain time or horsepower number? Do you want some room for growth? Do you want to run pump gas only or race gas or both? Figure out what you really want out of your car before you start modding it. It will save you time and money. My 2 pennies. :D

Also, read up on the link that Nelsons91AWD provided you.

I like the 16g....its a quality turbo that will spool quick enough and its not that expensive....800-900 I belive... It'll work good for you

The 16G and Big 16G are both under $500 at Slowboy. The EVO III is $568. Add porting and the install kit and the cost goes up.

I would definately recomend a Big T-28. I've heard good things about these turbo's. Apparently they have a quicker spool than a 16G and flow close to the same amount of air. Good luck, I wish I could get one cause I'm always looking for ways to make my torque curve steeper.

You might want to consider porting your exhaust mani and turbine inlet. This will decrease turbo lag. The evoIII is notorious for boost creep, but it can apparently be fixed by a proper wastegate port job in the turbine housing. Seems that this only crops up with 3" exhaust or perhaps 2.5" and 3" w/o cat.

If you're planning on a larger exhaust or removing your cat, porting before rather than after will save you some hassle. You can do the port yourself for about $200 total if you don't already have a die grinder, burrs, dremel, flapwheel bits, bolts, studs, and gaskets, but it'll take you several hours (free in my book). I just did this to my FP B28 and it wasn't a big deal for me. There's a great Tech article on porting here. It has links to relevant threads that would get you on the road.

Don't be overwhelmed, and read the forum like mad.

Good luck.

Thanks for that tech article link on porting, cus im playing on porting it my self when i get it. Like you sed its free

Here's what I'd do:

Walbro 190 kit - $110
650cc injectors - $330
MBC - $75
DSMLink - $600
Cone Air Filter - $50
Megan Downpipe - $160
ebay FMIC & pipng - $<400
your 16G & install kit - $600

total = $2325
(if you spend the full $400 on the intercooler and piping)

Do you think i will need to get injectors with only a 16g, and are the FMIC kit from Ebay good?

You only NEED the injectors, fuel pump and DSMLink if you plan to run more than 15-16psi. But with $2500 to burn, you may as well shoot for more boost and ultimately more power.

There are a few decent FMICs on ebay, just read the auction pages carefully and look for numbers stating what pressure the IC was leak tested to, what the pressure drop is and at what inlet pressure the drop was measured at. Also, look for a reputable seller with a good feedback percentage.

To reiterate what Nelsons91AWD posted earlier. DSMlink as a first mod is quite insane I'd say.

Well, I agree that DSMLink can be considered overkill at this point for him, but my reasoning is simply that he will be prepared for future tuning with it. He has a Eprom ECU already so why spend $220+ for an SAFC II, $175 for pocketlogger and $100+ for a palm device when you can have all the same capability and more potential with DSMLink. ?
