ok, when my car starts and comes to an idle there is a horrible loud knocking noise that sounds like its coming from piston #1 (far left), but its weird because when motor first turns over while starting the car, before it actually starts, there is absolutley no abnormal noise, when I rev jus a little above idle the noise almost seems to go away, but after that, the noise and rate of knock increases with rpm increase.

Today we took off the valve cover to check the lifters. Everything visible from under the valve cover looked like it was supposed to. So I think it might be a valve hitting the top of the piston, only weird thing is that the car still comes to an idle.

So, any post will be apreciated. Thx

with more discussion, we thought it might be a burnt exhaust valve just b/c there is no noise until gas is being burned and exited.. need info help

HI I HAVE A 1998 ECLIPSE RS. AND I HAVE THE SAME KNOCKING PROBLEM WHEN YOU REV IT TO ABOUT 2 GRAND OR A LIL MORE ITS A REAL LOUD KNOCKING. IT MEANS YOU SPUN A ROD BEARING OR IN MY CASE SPUN A BEARING AND SHATTERED A ROD. DONT RUN IT TO LONG LIKE THAT OR YOU WILL NEED TO DO SOME MAJOR BORING TO THE BLOCK.. :dsm:
