Im not sure how this has happened but today as I was driving completey normal i hear a knock or ticking noise when im coasting around 3000 rpms and when I hit the throttle in park or neutral it gets louder as the rpms raise. From my research it seems like a spun a rod bearing, How does this happen? Does this call for an engine rebuild? and is it safe to drive the car?

 If it's a bearing, no stop driving the car NOW. It can be caused from alot of things, oil starvation being a main culprit. But DO NOT drive the car!! and it will most likley call for an engine rebuild.

well now that you said that i went out to check my dip stick and the oil was spotted on it and I noticed that there is fresh oil seaping out around the edges of the spark plug cover, but the screws are too tight and i can't get it open. and last night now that i think about it as I was driving i heard this really loud noise kinda sounded like my blow off valve but a little bit deeper from, so i think i blew a seal or something.

Now what do I do? do I get it towed or just load it up with a lot of oil and drive to the mechanic and hope for the best?

Call AAA (if you have them) and put the car on a flatbad. Do not drive the car. Do not start the engine. If you have a spun rod bearing, running the car will only make the problem worse.

it could be any number of problems but if you hear a loud knock and it gets worse with RPM then my guess it's no good at all. Yeah make sure you use a flatbed, don't even start the engine.

Mechanic said it sounded like a broken piston "sounded", he said get a new engine don't even bother rebuilding??? 6 bolt time???? He blamed it all on my BOV and said that I was running too much boost, but its stock. I have a feeling the valve cover gasket and the spark slup tube seals he replaced were defective or not properly installed (by him) and he just doesn't want to confest to it.

LOL, well i guess you could use this to your benefit but thats crazy... theres no way a bov and stock boost could blow an engine like that or at least break a piston. I personally would not even bother rebuilding a 7bolt, look for a 6 bolt block at the junk yard or is classifieds and build that sucker up. Also i would take my car somewhere else!! :notgood:

I finally got my car over to the dealership today, $3100 for a brand new engine installed, he couldnt tell me if its a 6 or 7 bolt, he just said its what the factory recommends. Now all i need is an IPT tranny, 16g turbo, supporting mods and im set. PEACE

That sounds like 7-bolt to me. Oh well, run it 'till it walks.

Your mechanic sounds like he is trying to make some money off you buy telling you to just buy a new motor. It doesn't really sound like he knows what hes talking about when it comes to DSM's. The problem you have might not be very serious, but you never know until the motor is taken apart. You may have spun a balance shaft bearing or something.

I bet it is the balance shaft bearing. Mine came out and was knocking around in the oil pan. It sounded horrible. Everybody thought it was a rod bearing or rod. Balance shaft eliminator kit and alot of time took car of the whole problem.

well your right about my mechanic he doesn't know shit, but i took it to the dealership and they tore it apart and said i needed a new engine. Now i dont really want the 7 bolt but they only put in what the factory recommends... do you think my type s BOV will void the 1 year warranty, I haven't gotten a chance to ask them?

Im having a very similar problem right now aswell. It runs PERFECTLY when its cold ... as soon as it starts to hear up i start getting a knocking or ticking sound (it isnt lifters for sure, ive changed em already and its the same sound). Its pretty loud, loud enough for me to hear it from the cabin with no music and windows up.

When i get out and pop the hood, it sounds like its comming from the head. This is a head i just installed and it all checked out before i installed it so we know the head is ok. My timing belt had ripped the teeth right out and skipped when i lost my oil filter in november. I got it back on the road last month but have only drivin it a few times.

So im guessing it could be any number of things. The first couple times i drove it it was fine, only thing wrong was the timing. It was loose and ended up skipping a space. Ever sence i corrected the skip and tightened the belt ive been getting this sound. Any ideas from anyone? Why would it run great cold and then sound horrable after it warmed up? I dont really want to have it take it back apart but i guess i will if i have too

Thanks
