I'm trying to install TopLine 3g lifters to get rid of my annoying lifter tick, but its not going so well. Yes, I'm using the vfaq article as a guide but I'm still having trouble. For one thing, I can't seem rotate the engine via the cam sprocket bolt. Using a 17mm open-end wrench as the vfaq suggests, I'm trying to turn the cam gear clockwise but it won't budge. I've rotated engines from the crankshaft before so I have some idea of the force needed to rotate a motor. Also, I'm having trouble removing the rocker arm so I can get at the lifter. Once again following the directions of the vfaq, I'm trying to use a pry-bar to lift the rocker arm off the lifter. While I'm able to lift up the rocker arm, I just can't seem slide it over and off the lifter. Any thoughts, tips, or suggestions?

My honest suggestiong is to pull the cams, it should only take you 5 hours.

But I am guessing that is not the way you want to do it, so my other plan would be to pull the drivers wheel and rotate the engine via the crankshaft sprocket. I would pry them to the left or right, which ever has more room(this will vary between the rocker your working on.

also while your working at this I like to spray carb and choke cleaner in the holes in the cylinder head that are just to the inside of the lifters to help loosen the lifters up. If you do this though I would preform and oil change .

Yes, the plugs are out. I should turn it clockwise... correct? I'm going to give it another try today or tomorrow. I really want to do this without pulling the camshafts, but we'll see.

Yeah, f you take a 2 hour nap in the middle. Seriously though, just pull the cams and keep the prybar away from your engine.

Yes you turn the engine clockwise while rotating. I have done this same method on several dsm's with a prybar and have had no problems. If the rocker will not come off the lifter just rotate the engine a little bit more to change the lobe position on the cam so you then have enough room to lift the rocker off. The only thing I can stress enough is to be careful, you don't want to scratch the surface on the cams or you'll have a whole other set of problems. If you have any more questions let me know.
