Thanks guys

For anyone else needing help that doesn't have a VAC port on the turbo or J pipe, you can run your MBC like this.

Actually, you cannot run it the way it's posted. Having the MBC before the BOV would cause the BOV to blow open during boost by not having pressure keeping the valve closed.

Terrible way to hook it up anyway. :notgood:

hey ive got an eternal wastegate and need help installing a mbc... theres no nipple on the turbo... however there is on the wastegate and the bov. i have the mbc and a t. however the t specificly states witch way it needs to point but im just confused on the rest of the set up i need a pic of an external wastegate with mbc.

If there is no nipple then you need to put one on. Do not tap the BOV line

My setup: Ball and spring

so i cant just tap a line right after the turbo on the ic pipe?? it has to be on the turbo housing?? so bleeders suck should i just pick up a regular mbc instead and make the install a hell of alot cheaper. so why is that bov tapped to the mbc in that upper pic i thought its only supposed to be tapped with the boost gauge and intake mani??

You can tap the IC pipe or J pipe. The best spot would be at or just after the compressor housing where the boost pressure is being produced so you have the fastest response and most accurate reading.

Think of bleeders as a controlled boost leak. More work to install compared to a ball-and-spring style.

Because he didn't know any better. Don't ever tap the BOV if you want a properly working setup.

You leave the solenoid plugged in as IIRC you will get a CEL if you unplug it. I may be wrong on that however and it won't hurt anything having it unplugged.

What 3rd line are you talking about? There should only be 2 lines used total. Once off the compressor housing and one off of the wastegate actuator. Both lines go to the MBC. The nipple on the intake pipe that was used and plumbed into the stock system needs plugged up with a vacuum cap.

One thing I would like to point out, is that there is a real inconsistency with if you get a CEL or not on 2Gs when pulling the BCS. I personally did not get one. So you will have to trial and error it.

Just to throw this out for future readers, this only applies to 2gs. On a 1g you can completely remove the solenoid and associated wiring with no CEL's.

Also to back up what liquidx is saying, do not tap into the BOV line. The BOV works best with a dedicated line. If you don't have a port, make one on the j-pipe or as close as you can to the compressor outlet as you can for better response. On my setup I ended up having to put on the lower intercooler pipe itself.

Here is my favorite thread on installing a ball and spring (Hallman, etc.) MBC: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-turbo-system-intercooler/237982-best-way-install-mbc.html

Hope this helps!

Hallman's are nice and fairly inexpensive. I have the pro which doesn't need any sort of lock nut or allen wrench to adjust boost or hold itself in place. I haven't been able to find them any cheaper than the $75 price I got mine for.

I got mine from ebay for like 78 with shipping i think! check Ebay!! - Ryann :talon:
