Help whats wrong with my trans? Popping out of gear!

Ok my car is popping out of third and fourth and low rpms and its pretty loud like a bang, and it grinds when i downshift into third, unless i put it in nutrual and rev it up a lil then it slides in smooth, also i just relaced a seal that blew out in the tranny and it was better for a few days, i realized i had a problem when id give it gas and let off and the car would jerk and make a loud grindin noise now that i changed the seal it dont do it as much, the last thing is when i reverse if i dont let the cluth fully out the car jolts back and forth horribly like im gettin hit by a train!???

Is it my cluth tranny, iono, help.... experts only!
 
well the whole popping in and out of gear, and it being hard to get into gear sound like its your synchro. But the reverse situation sounds like it might have to do with a clutch problem. Thats just what i think, i have never had this happen to me, so i cant be 100% sure. Sorry
 
can I just buy the syncro's or is there a place online that sells tranny's and whats a good price for one at a junk yard?!?!?!?
 
Everyone slow down.

Synchros will not cause the car to pop out of gear. Synchros keep it from grinding when it's going into gear, but they don't have anything to do with it popping out.

Popping out of gear is usually caused by a loose shaft. Pull the end cover off the tranny and check to make sure the nuts are tight. If they are tight, you might need a rebuild.
 
I heard re-builds were useless and over priced, so should i just get a low mileage used one, right now money is tight so im gonna lean twards the cheaper one!

This depends on how fast you will be. If you are 350+ HP, you will need a decent drivetrain set-up to transfer that power. My tranny is at Shep Racing getting rebuilt right now. Mine was popping out of gear too. A couple months after that, there was a bucking/jerking problem. And then 2 weeks after that, my differential exploded. I would say, your best bet is to (if you can afford it), send it off to Shep Racing and have him give it a basic rebuild plus a limited slip differential. It'll run you $2000, but you shouldn't ever have to worry about tranny problems down the road.

haha - it's one of things you gotta do if you want something nice. You can go get a used one, and find yourself in the same posisition in 9 months... check out TRE and SHEP - they do DSM. do NOT take it to aamco or someplace like that.

I had input shaft damage and intermediate shaft damage which toastes 1-5 on the shaft. complete rebuild with parts was 1600.

Like kpt4321 said, a loose shaft could cause it to pop out of gear. Tightening the nut at the end of the shaft will tighten 5th gear onto the shaft. It won't tighten the shaft, or prevent it from flopping around in the tranny. Shaft loosness is caused by blown shaft bearings.

You can check for shaft loosness with the endcover off. Just grab the end of the shaft and try to push it up/down or front to back. The upper shaft should have just a tiny little bit of freeplay, and I mean small- almost undetectable with this method. The lower/ intermediate shaft should have slight preload, meaning there should be no freeplay at all. If it moves at all, it's too loose and the bearings and shims should be replaced.

It could be a broken fork that causes u popping out of gear cause it never gets it properly in gear . That was what happened to mine for first to second replaced fork with new one aand it worked like a charm. If you drain the oil and there are lots of aluminium in it its a good chance its the fork either way it looks like that tranny needs to get ripped apart.
