I have a 95 tsi awd. At redlights at times the rpms go up when i hit the gas and the car slowly takes off. The turbo spools but the car will not take off like it should. Sometimes it takes off without rpms goin up but it does not give the power it should. I can spool the turbo just fine so that isnt blown. Please im desparate for ideas. It has 82k on the car. Its in good shape. A few days ago i hit ice and went over a curb. A catalityc converter atleast i think it is looks like its cracked open a little its on the pipe coming out of the engine right near the front. Please someone give me an idea :confused:
 
you do have o2 sensors down past the cat, if the leak is bad enough i suppose it could mess with your readings from that sensor causing your motor to run different..
 
not entirely sure im new to the dsm world. Would that cause my problem. PPl dont seem to think the tranny is the cause but i have no idea
 
im told it could be my torque converter went out. A friend drove my car an it makes the same sound his did an same way it drives his did when his went out. Anyone agree this could be the cause
 
Now i am told that since my tranny fluid is fine and not black it is the clutch bands in the transmission its automatic. I am told they either need to be replaced or re adjusted depending on what kind they are. It used to give a little nudge while moving foward in drive when i first start out in the morning. Does anyone want to back up the clutch bands going out theory?
 
someone help pay attention to my post no one ever replies to them and i am freakin out here.
 
if the rpms arent going up then your tranny is probably fine, it's not slipping......heres the thing though, the auto trannys will go into "safe mode" and the tranny will start out in second gear, and i think that what might be going on here, try disconnecting your battery cables for like 10 min and then re-connect them and see if it makes a difference, also if you can have your tranny controller "scanned" to see if you have any slip codes in it.....if the tranny slips for even a second it will put the tranny in safe mode and it will want to start out in second or third gear if it has a first gear slip code....which on the dsm auto tranny is common since the auto dsm tranny in stock trim is pretty much junk, another thing to check would be the catalytic convertor under your car, if its clogged or smashed you will have a pretty big power loss........ :dsm:
