I had a code 170 and 125, (insufficient coolant temp and fuel trim malfunction)
I've been having bad gas milage and feels like it is cutting out a little sometimes.

I thought it might be the O2 sensor so. .

I've tested the O2 sensor with a multimeter. I wanna make sure I did it right so I'll take you through what I did.

1. turned the multimeter to measure volts dc
2. grounded the black probe of the multimeter to the block
3. tested the white wire ---- .016v - - I assume this is positive for O2 sensor?
4. tested the blue? - - .006v - - - - heater?
5. tested both blacks and got .002 v - - - - grounds?

none of the readings moved really at all, and the engine was at normal operating temp.
If it was working right I would think the white wire should have moved from .1 to .9v.

I would appreciate any help you could give me. If I did it wrong, please tell me how to do it right. Or tell me if you think it's someting else.

Thanks
Silver

You tested it with a digital or needle style? I'm also trying to trouble shoot my o2 sensor reading problem and have had 0 luck.(Tried new mitsu and a napa 02 with same problems of slow/crappy 02 readings). You set it to measure volts dc does your multimeter have different settings to measure the volts dc and if so what did you have yours set at? Did you fix the codes before testing? Do you have any type of datalogger?

I used a digital multimeter. It has dc volts in mV and V, I used V. I didn't fix the codes before testing, and I don't have a datalogger, or I think it would have been easier.

After doing this I decided to buy an O2 sensor, I put it in cleared the codes and after driveing it 2 days it hasn't come back. Also my gas mileage seems to have really improved. This doesn't seem to be your problem though, since you already tried that.
