Help me ID kelford 272 cams please!

One of the locals sells supposedly "brand new in the box" kelfords around here for what seems like a decent price. I 'm planning to go and check 'em out but would like to know what to look for when I see them. The boxes should be self-explanatory I guess but what about markings/stampings on the cams themselves? If somebody has a chance to snap a pic or two, I 'd appreciate it otherwise a verbal description will help as well. Thanks in advance!

Kind of hard to replicate that marking.

you are really untrusting of this shop if you are questioning whether they are re-sealing up fake or knockoff cams in a box to sell to people. Sounds like an elaborate scam for a local one horse shop.

Call up Delta Camshaft in Tacoma, Washington and have them grind you the Kelford 272 profile on new billets. $420ish shipped. Proven power!

No it is not a shop, just a person posting on the internet locally. I don't want to treat him as a potential scammer but at the same time want some assurance as well. I 'm aware of Delta but these are four hundred and supposedly originals hence the reason for my interest. Unless Delta grind is a better cam than Kellys themselves

Oh yeah thats totally different. If its some craigslist random, you SHOULD be dubious, I would. Deltas are going to be basically identical to the kelfords, you just wont get the fancy stamp on them though

hey guys just a question i just got my kelford cams about 5 min ago, inspected it and all looks good, let me add i bought the cams from a supporting shop on tuners, only one cam has any markings and its 5 digit number, theres no kelford word or anything else nothing what so ever.

do kelford cams are supposed to have kelford?

Then you may have got some Delta Kelford clone cams.

Price for one. Delta will do a Kelford clone on new cores.

But as stated above, Kelford has there name on them.

The set I have in a 4g has kelford along with a the Kelford cams I have in my shop for a RB26.

I really hope a vendor would not do a "box swap".

But if your cams do not have the kelford cast into them, I would look into it a bit closer.... I am sure a quick call/email to Kelford will let you know if they sell cams with out there logo on them.

i talked to my vendor he tolled me to send him pics and he would look in to it i will be sending a email to kelford to find out, i just never seen cams with no marks on them what so ever.

just some updates i did talk to Kevin from kelford he said "take a look at number one journal . it has a thrust ring on it and we mark them on there".
that was his replay to me.

and the only thing i found was this

So I just went and looked at the cams and they look exactly like the pic above: 1TX-272 on the thrust ring but no "Kelford" mark cast into them. The box looked legit along with the paperwork - all the specs printed on the white and red Kelford cam card. They were packed in plastic tubes and wrapped in bubble wrap that had "1TX-272 in" and "...ex"hand written in black marker on it. He said he had a receipt from the order time somewhere in the house. I didn't grab them thinking I 'll wait till it is clarified here that what 2gdanny has are real Kelfords. So what's the verdict?

hey guys so yes the out come off talking to kevin from kelford and my vendor at jnztuning "paul"
keven said no one in the world has cam blanks that those are made, and from the pics he said they are correct,

paul at jnz tuning said the same thing, he spoke to his importer for kelfords and he said this cams don't have a ton of markings and that they are the legitimate importer of kelford cams to the usa.

all add that like slow tsi said my cams where also vac sealed and bubble wrapped, the spec card and all was in, they did not have any writing on the bubble wrapped tho.
i have been buying stuff from jnz tuning from day one, i can get screwed one day, who knows but so far they have been legit with everything i bough +1

So in short, You can get Keford cams both ways, with Kelford cast into the cam AND with out Kelford cast into it.

Ok guys so more updates I sent the image of the casted. Kelford to keven he's response was-

Not all of them do. We have two different casting suppliers, so one supplier puts this on for us and another supplier dosnt.
So long as it has the part number and the spec sheet we can trace it's history.

So having the part number or kelford , casted as long as its got the spec sheet it's good.

I just sent Kelford an Email and a link to this thread.
It could be something they have stopped doing on the cam blanks.

Now it time to play the waiting game and see what they have to say.

No, not all of them.
We have two different casting suppliers at present, one of which does not cast our name in them.
Soon there will be a totally different casting for all of the 4G63 platform. It is a casting owned by us and will not be available to any other cam company. It will have KCT cast in it, but not until early next year.

All of our camshafts go into USA through Motovicity and all are traceable by the spec card number that comes with the cams.



So 2g danny, they are "real" Kelford cams!
