So I'm back after a year or so....(took me that long to be motivated again) long story short LOL. Traded a 1986 Chevy 4x4 for a modified 99 GS. Drove the car a month and the belt broke. P2v being the result. Parked it in the drive way and bought a trailblazer SS. Removed the head for machine work 6mos ago and didn't want to mess with her anymore. I've put on paper an nice parts list for my tbss. However when I look at the price comparison on the fixing the car vs the lsxSUV. It don't take no genius to realize 2-3k would go way further in the eclipse. That being said its time to resurrect the dead. So as she sits I have many parts of undetermined mfg. *my goal is 12s consistently.* my question to the DSM community is what to do what to do haha. I/H/E of un known mfg JE forged positions n rings Crane cams adjustable cam gears eagle rods afpr maf coilovers msd 5wire ground kit 17" ADR wheels. Those are the parts I know because of it being obvious and the previous owner stated so. He was a 23yo mechanic by trade so I'm fairly certain he did his shit right. Oh and he didn't give me the nitrous kit. Thanks in advance and sorry for the story.

Well first off you gotta decide whether you want to go with forced induction or all motor. Once you figure that out it is as simple as making your car breathe as much air as possible, and putting larger injectors, fuel pump, FPR, and other supporting mods.

Agreed! However I have no clue what spec the cams or the pistons are. I would like to stay NA as long as I can stand it. I'm no pro but I'm handy with a wrench. I'm going to post pics of parts if anyone can help me id them.

$2-3k will get you farther in a 4g63 where the stock internals have been in the 9's. My honest recommendation would be to fix and sell the gs, buy a 1g awd, and put 2-3k into that.

Na fwd vs Fi awd

Plane the block and shave the head down to raise compression ratio to 11:1.

Add a coil booster so you can get 70 to 85 KV to the plugs. Use plugs with .044 gap to really get an explosive spark

Full race, high lift cams. Make it breathe very nicely.

Something for starters to get some more bump out of that motor ... And you don't need a turbo.

OR .....

Common sense tells this story: Sell the GS and buy a GS-T ... it's faster than the 420A and the factory has put the needed components under the hood for you.

Ok LOL I would like to keep the car. If I was to sell it I would get a crate sbc for my 91 s10 and go 12s all day. Tho fix and sell was my intended result, my wife gave the ok to start a track project. So I found my notes from last year and the guy said he had a .030 over bore on the cyl and port work done to the head. In my mind that makes a good start. Even tho that will make my compression lower depending on my pistons. On a side note wouldn't some sort of ems be needed to support my current mods?

12's are no problem with the right setup. A lot of people will steer you away from building the 420a platform, but you can build the car and be totally satisfied with it. Will this car be mainly for the track or street use also?

They don't make vtec fluid anymore LOL

Track. No street besides a cruse here n there.

Nice I pm'd a more extensive parts list, But turbo is the way to go. A lot easier and cost effective in my opinion. As far as being able to handle the power your main concern will be the bottom end. A good set of JE's, or Wiseco's 8:8.1 will do fine. Crower or Eagle H beams. Let me know if you have any questions about that parts list :thumb: To add to that a lot of it comes down to the fuel you want to run pump, e85, Race fuel.

Thanks I will check it out.

Sell it and buy a turbo model.

If you do decide to keep it, make sure you calculate the timing/water pump into your budget, and do that first and foremost.

everyone told me to sell my 420a, an by a gsx blah blah blah, no my built 420a on 8psi is smoking gsx an gst's on 12-15psi, and is a hell of a lot more reliabe than my stock 97 gst, good luck sir, if you decide to build there are some 420aer's on here that will help you get into the twelve's reliably, :thumb:

420a's aren't bad but don't fool yourself into thinking that's it even on the same level as the 4g63.

yes the 4g has some perks that make it easier to mod and cheaper to build,
but once you get to a certain point the both have to be built, an the 4g has awd, some enjoy not having it as easy and felling major power gains as they build, but this thread was not meant to be a battle of 4g an 420a, it was meant to help a guy get his 420a in the 12's,

see my profile for all the mods to run 12's in that.

Interesting...

Well popped the hood and realized I'm a idiot. I didn't put rags in the cylinders nor did I tape of the deck. So now I will have to get a hone and resurface the deck. I will have to look tomorrow and see how bad the buildup is but I'm not happy. Any recommendations besides the obvious?

I had a guy (out of nowhere) make a 2500 offer for the car as is. Not too keen on selling but is this a good offer for the car. Looks wise the car is in great shape. Cf hood needs to be sanded and clear coated. And carpet needs changing (I have new black) and passenger seat needs to be mounted. And has one scratch from my little girls handlebars. I'd give it a 8/10 overall cosmetic wise. Please advise thanks

Cash or trade for a 2001 r1 stretched n moded or keep? I can't decide so her destiny is in your hands.

it would take you more then 2-3k to run 12's with a 420a even with the work that is already done. your car can still be fast n/a but you wont hit 12's. you have a good plan for your build but honestly its never ending. if you did build your car to run 12's you would only want to go faster LOL so pick a happy medium and run with it.
