I would say go find an EVO motor and swap that in. although you might need new driveshafts and a whole front end because thats some heavy stuff and probably puts out more than that chick.....

Easier said than done, don't take this guys advice. :notgood:

I would suggest just going to a machine shop and seeing about getting them to build you a bottom end. The only thing is that you will still have to find a block to build and it will require a lot of downtime.

Don't even think about doing a 4G63 swap. You need a tranny as well not to mention all the electronics and harnesses and cutting and welding motor mounts. Just get a used 420A and swap it out. If you want to go turbo then just sell your car and get a GST or GSX...

i was thinking if the head is not shot, to buy a built up bottom end and buy a star stage 2 turbo kit, then eventually get the head built up.

Yes, there is no reason to sell your car a buy a gst/x. Get the bottom end setup for turbo so you can get more out of it. www.2gnt.com has alot of NT-T info and they are very helpful.

Except for resale value.

Spend 3 grand building an engine and turboing it...now enjoy getting *maybe* $300 over bluebook.

Or, buy a car that's already turbo and have a higher resale value.

^^^^^^Exactly, resale on a 96 gsx is roughly (+or-) 5200 and gst at 4800 and that my freinds is if the car is in EXCELLENT condition. Now anywhere you go your prolly going to pay about 7500+or- for those two cars(mine was 6500) because of the high demand for these 4g63T powerd monsters. Now for the NA 2g in excellent condition(although no 96 could be excellent unless mits started retromaking vehicles)+or- 4000 and your prolly in all actuallity only going to pay around 3000 for a decent non turbo that hasnt been modded, so spend the money to make your car stock again sell it for about 3000, and use that as a downpayment to buy the 4g63t(1gor2g) and if you dont like it sell it for more than you paid for it. Thats what everyone else does :thumb:

I just have one question. What is your obsession with this head? I have read about 4 post containing your concern for the head.

You should have been concerned with checking your oil levels. You should listen to some of these folks about wasting money building a bottom end. Do you know anything about cars? I am asking this simply because you obviously didn't know a hole in the block where you could see the internals was bad.

I hope this is a joke post.

I would agree you let the oil level get too low, or you never changed it. The head is the last place the oil travles, if it didn't have adequate pressure/volume I would bank you did some damage.

Howellautomotive.com also sells blocks, and they have good customer service.

Check your oil levels like twice a week. I had the same problem where I spun a rod bearing, which in turn threw a rod through the block. I just put a whole new motor in, but if you just want to buy a built block, that would work also. It took me over 2 months to find a motor that had good compression.

I hope your not referring to me.

If you are, here is some advice... take an automotive tech class at the local community college.

As far as the automotive tech class? I wish i could :(.

i know im not as mechanically inclined as all of u , but im trying to learn. Is there a guide anywhere on how to take the head off off the block ?

You gotta start sometime, and owning an older car (esp a DSM) it's mandatory.

Pickup a Chilton's / Haynes manual and start reading. They will cover everything from basic maintenance to full rebuilds :dsm:

4x4 already asked you, and I'm going to ask again. What is your obsession with the head????Dude get a new block, there cheap. Fix your car! If you want an automotive class pick up a haynes automotive guide like ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^he said and swap out the good engine you go buy. Now using the haynes guide you'll get your class right there once you read that book you'll realize that being a mechanic really isnt that difficult, once you grasp it. Its just understanding and comprehending the nature of the the game(engines). Basically just get a good used longblock swap it and sell it! End of story game over end this dreaded thread because as 4x4 said, and I quote;

Thanks for trying to instigate yet another 420A vs 4g63 fight. You have your opinion and are entitled to it but you don't have the right, on here, to throw it in someone else's face like that.

As for the blown 420A if your rods went through the block then you can be sure the pistons smacked the head and valves. You will find this out if/when you pull the head. If you heard a noise in the engine and continued to drive it then automotive classes are too advanced for you.

Just like everyone else said... longblock and be done with it. Oh... and hope they don't want a core back because yours is not reusable.

Doug dont get mad, I wasnt instigating a fight just busting his balls. Just cause you drive a nt doesnt mean anything negative I just simply stated my opion bro. Dont sweat it :nono: No one is bashing the nt crowd, I'm sure there are a few of them running better times than me. I just told him what I thought about his situation. I mean hell why not put a running longblock in there, return it to stock and then get a gst or x for around or near the same price?? Do you see what I'm saying??Cause in the beg I think he said he wanted to build up his car and "I" personally think it'd be easiar for him(cause hes not mechanically inclined, kinda ignorant about cars, and naive) to mod a gst/x than it would for him to pay all that money to build up a 420a and put real numbers down. Especially when you consider to get the same numbers he prolly wants all hed need is some injectors a logger and a boost controller. Hell man I wouldnt recommend him doing this build up with the 420a cause he drove the car around with a fucing hole in the block, so .....just my opinion get a gst/x and next time you hear ANYTHING inspect the hell out of your car! Doug, sorry if you took offense about my comment, none given though. Sorry bro. :dsm:

Damn that sucks. If it were me, I would either find a motor off ebay or a junkyard. And if I couldn't find one there, just sell it without a motor and buy a 4g63 powered car man.
