help...difrent alternator belt size!

ok so i was cleaning the engine bay yesterday and i decided to remove my power steering stuff, i dont mind not having it plus its that much less under the hood and easier to get a the last nut for the exhaust manifold.

now that my power streering pump is out of the way, i slided my alternator all the way up so that my fmic piping fits with a nice perfect 90 degree and hooks up straight for better airflow.

my question is this.... i need to know if anyone has done this...and found a smaller belt size with the brand name...or jsut the size that fits perfect for this setup. again...my alternator is set all the way up. i need a way smaller belt.

anybody found a belt size for this setup???

Just take your belt in to napa or something and tell them how much longer you need it. Then just remember the part number for your reference.

You could always take yours in to the store and compare, or get the stock one at the store and compare about how much shorter you need it to be to all the belts that are hanging there. They let my behind the counter since i buy so many parts, they dont know what the hell you're talking about half the time.

yeah i need it shorter not longer... i know i could go into the parts store and find one shorter, thats not a problem...im just wondering if there is someone out there with this setup that found a perfect size belt for this... i dont want to end up buying a belt thats gonna spit on me. and this way i will save time. im gonna need the belt in about 3 days.

im not asking what should i do... im asking if there is somebody out there with this setup that found a perfect belt size. thanks for the info tho but yeah...its info i allready knew

Not trying to be a smart @ss but does your alt have a bracket to adjust the tension on it? If yes then you can use a belt as short as the distance will allow. It doesnt have to be exact if its adjustable. I'd guess w/out even seeing it, you might want to get a belt 1 inch shorter and try it. Go get a few different belts (smaller) and take the ones back you dont use. Simple enough. Your best help is yourself most of the time. If you want it done by someone else take it to a shop and let them do the same exact thing, they'll go to the wall and look at all the different sizes and try them until one fits. Try posting a pic of your setup w/out the p/s and where the alt is located now, it could help. GL

Just thought of this but you could take a piece of string or similar and wrap it around the distance it needs to cover and then use that for reference

i removed the adjustable pin...the thing is...my intercooler piping is big, and it fits perfect when the alternator sits at the very top of the adjustable bracket, if the alternator comes down a tiny bit just to tighten the belt...then my piping is knocking against the alternator, so i was just wondering if somebody has done this setup and found a perfect belt size to do this, thats all....i know that there is a bunch of things i can do. but thanks.

im gonna go in tomorow and try a bunch of belts...ill let you guys know what size belt fits perfect for this setup if you are planing to get 3'' intercooler piping!

Last time I had to replace my alternator belt the parts guy gave me the wrong belt (i only said 2.0 turbo motor 4 times to him), get back to my car and it was about 2" too short, figured out he gave me the belt for a 1.8, might check into that and see if it was what you need.
