help! broken dsm!

so i was driving my 90 talon tsi down the road at 20 mph a few days ago and it slowly dies on me and then wouldnt start. when i got it home and took the valve cover off, all of my rockers from the intake side were scattered about. all of the springs on the intake side look compressed compared to the exhaust side. is this normal? what could have gone wrong? im taking the head off this weekend to see if there is any damage to teh valves or pistons. im kinda new to working on cars any input on things to check would be greatly appreciated. ive only not had my car for a few days but its depressing to not be able to drive my baby

Welcome to DSMs .

It's probable the timing jumped and you most likely have bent valves and you will want to get the valve guides checked and replaced. Check for damage on the cam journals and lobes before putting them back in.

awww damn. thats what ive been told by a few people. sounds expensive :/

Not entirely, I had the same problem, replaced valves a couple times, come to find out the head was warped. You can look through the classifieds here, might find something. Local junkyard here wanted 470$ for one w/cams. Best bet, have the head checked out, see if the guides are still good, and I think the valves were like 8$ each from the parts store.
