HELP! 7 Bolt Crank Socket

im building my block but have no idea where to find the CRANK SOCKET... IE the socket that fits around the bare crank used to turn/rotate the crank so i can dis-assemble the block... where can i find this socket? any other options rather than bolting the stock crank housing to the new crank and turning it by hand? HELP PLEASE :)
 
You use a 1/2" drive wrench with no socket and then you don't have to worry about rounding it of either. Or are you talking about something else?

hmmm that seems possible... but what i have is the bare block... nothing attached (other than pistons rods etc) its literally just the shaft coming out of the crank... its circular and only has one "tooth"
 
There is no crank "socket". The crank SPROCKET is what you are looking for. In order, after the front case goes on, then the balance shaft sprocket (about 3/4" thick wheel with circular holes), then the crank trigger plate, then the crank sprocket goes on. All 3 have a notch cut out for that "key" on the crank, so they can all be installed only one way.
 
If what gofer supplied as info isn't what you are looking for, than I'm absolutely confused about what you are asking.

You have a block with pistons, rods, and crankshaft (obviously) still installed; are you trying to remove those items? If not, please be a bit more specific on what you are asking.

You wouldn't happen to be talking about this portion of the crank coming out of the front side of the engine (note front cover/oil pump removed in pic), would you? That portion has a single key that guides the sensing plate, balance shaft sprocket and crankshaft sprocket into their correct positions, I suppose it could be mistaken for a tooth.

19Eclipse90, yeah thats close to what i have... i was told that i needed this "socket" to fit onto the crank and then from there rotate the crank to find top dead center to remove the pistons and rods. Again this is from a good friend who is helping me with my project. Im trying to find out if i actually need this ( or if it even exists) or if he really doesnt want to do it xD but i remember when i got the block from the last person, he had it on a stand and i remember him getting out what looked like a socket and a ratchet, it fitting onto the crank and he (and pardon my lack of correct vocabulary) made the pistons go up and down... that is the tool im looking for... My goal is to take the stock pistons out of my new block and replace them with my forged pistons, rods ect
 
your lost, screw in your crank sprocket bolt temporarily (the one with the 1/2" drive slot in it, and is in gofer's picture), and turn your crank with a 1/2 drive ratchet, breaker bar. Simple. With the timing belt off, spinning the crank by hand should be very easy too if you cant find a 1/2" ratchet. Hell, even most 3/8" ratchet kits come with an adapter, 3/8" - 1/2" and that will even work.
 
In that case, no tool is necessary. As knochgoon24 posted already, the crankshaft will easily rotate by hand once the oil pan is removed.
