So i have been looking around and i havent found an answer to this question. I have a completely stock 95 tsi, so the 7 bolt is there.. My question is, would it be wise to go with an aftermarket crank? I dont believe it has crankwalk, but i have not measured for it. My thoughts were that I have future power goals, but for now to avoid the messy crankwalk graveyard. Any thoughts or opinions?
 
Unless your going 300+hp the stock crank is ok. Anyways a after market crank itself may not be any better in crankwalk terms. Walk is caused by the thrust bearing failing not the crank but could cause it to. The thrust bearing going out is caused by lack of oil or lots of forces acting on the bearing etc etc. This link outlines things that cause it and how to prevent it: Whats the main cause of crank walk?

So id probably wait till you need it for the extra power and after you check the thrust bearing and the engine isn't damaged.
 
There is really no reason to upgrade the crank unless you plan on spinning the motor at unusually high rpms. I would pick up an evo crank because they are 5lbs lighter than the factory ones

Well i assumed that with installing a new crank you would install new, matching bearings. but thanks for the input guys, makes sence :)

300hp on the stock crank is waayyyyyy low..I'm not sure why that was mentioned at all.

Considering people have seen in excess of 700hp on the stock crank, I wouldn't be worried. Stock cranks are forged. Crankwalk is WELL overplayed. For every one person that walks, there's a 10000 people that don't. Auto's are almost impossible to walk(barring neglect).

I have plenty of rude comments that I could throw this way, but ill just leave it at the bold answers my question, the rest is unnecessary.

And thank you Joe. I was just unsure on how strong the stock crank was. I come from playing with Rotaries so I'm trying to get back into the swing of pistons...
 
Well since the first post on this thread was after 300 hp you should go aftermarket crank.I thought hey maybe there should actually be some kind of real answer in this thread.
