I spent several hours today trying to extract the alternator from my engine bay. How the hell does this thing come out? Do I have to remove the axle? Do I need to dismantle the alternator itself? I've removed the splash guard and everything... Advice would be appreciated. If you live in Miami, $30 to pull it out and install my new one - the old one is already unbolted.

No the actual alternator is not connected to the car at all - even the bracket it's connected to is out. My problem is getting the unit out of the engine. I can move it all over and rotate it and everything, but I can't get it past the axle no matter what direction i turn it in. Everybody's like "undo this and this and it slips out" ---- it's the slipping out part that I'm having issues with. Thanks

hrm, maybe its different on the N/T's.....my buddy just replaced his, took about 15 min to get out.....as long as everything is disconnected, all you have to do is just work it out. its a tight fit but just keep at it, it will come out.... :thumb:

havn't replace the one on my 2g, but I did my 1g about 5 times in the 2 years I had it LOL, so I got very good at it. It was alot easier to get out with the driver side rad fan removed.

Remove neccesary belts, unbolt power steering pump from its bracket (Do Not Disconnect Pump!) pull it up and out of way as much as possible. You might need to remove a cooling fan or 2. Pull alternator out through the top. :talon:

i havewnt done it on a N/T but i did it on my 2g turbo and i think hes having trouble just yanking the damn thing out. I remember when i did mine it was a major PAIN IN THE ASS to take mine out AND put it back in. I even had to grind a little off of the mounting ear to get it to fit in.

Pull very very very very hard or try to use something for leverage!

Ok so after hours of trying to take it out the wheel well and having the axl in my way, I removed the top mounting bracket, disconnected the throttle thing connected to the body, disconnected something else (power steering) and made a sizeable hole for it to come out --- after hours of trying to get it out that way I ####in' gave up. I'm going to have it towed to either Satan or some other place. Shit.

Post a picture man!

Ill look at my shop manual after i get done washing my integra.
Do you need the car tommorow? Hold off on taking it b/c i bet ur almost there

I have a 1g and the alt. sits in the front of the engine, is it different on a 2g and it sits between the firewall and engine, or is this guy tring to remove his a/c

I didn't think that I had the 2.4 and you have the 2.0.. i've got no idea how different yours is but mine is very simple.

ok me and a friend of mine changed his on his nt 420a motor, and yes it is a PITA, the turbo model one comes out in 15 min, it took us 4 hours to pull his old and get new one in. Dont try to take it out from the top, we got his to come out with the engine mount bracket still on it threw the axle area, it was real tight and almost there so we took a cheater bar and gave it a nug and came out, geting it in is a little easyer, i suggest puting it back in with the engine bracket all ready on the alternater, now that is the easy part, what killed us was trying to get that damn pin that holds tenson on top back into place.

Good Luck dont take it to satan- Chris

You guys are funny. I told you I'm new at this, but I felt really stupid at the shop. Thanks for all your posts, but you all assumed one thing in your advice: The car was raised by a ramp - NOT a jack - so the axle was horizontal keeping me from getting out the alternator. You need to raise the car and let the wheels droop, which makes the hole much bigger to get out the part.
