Occasionally when I am sitting at a red light idling, smoke begins to flow out from underneath my hood, not a small amount, it's alot of smoke for a few seconds, then it will clear out, and be fine for awhile. As of right now my downpipe is open, and the end of it is under the hood, facing the ground, so the exhaust gas could be coming up(i haven't been able to look to see if that what it is coming out of) Has anyone else had this problem? If so what were some causes?? The smoke is blue and smells PRETTY bad, so i'm assuming oil..

Thanks

Pop your hood and check to see if your valve cover gasket is leaking anywhere. It might be leaking a bit and dripping onto the exhaust manifold.

There is a slight leak there, like when it got torqued, after being driven, it needs to be torqued again. I don't have a torque wrench...Well I have access to one, but not one that goes down to 8 ft lb  . And I heard there is a certain pattern in torquing the bolts...

:nono: proper torque is 36 inch-lbs which = 3 ft-lbs.
If you over tighten the brittle valve cover will crack.

What I do is seat all bolts flush with the valvecover surface using a screwdriver socket driver (or 1/4" socket wrench) then tighten an additional 1/4 turn going in a criss-cross pattern on the outside bolts then the inside bolts repeating process until snug :dsm:

Well I just popped the hood and had a look, when I hold steady at 2k RPM, at idle, it will begin to smoke very badly. It is oil, and the downpipe, like I said, IS open. I've got a busy day ahead, so tomorrow I will wipe all the oil off where ever I can find any and then see what happens.
