ok so I've been trying to to remove the lifters and I am having a hell of time. Can anybody give me any advice on getting them out. I have the camshaft out and I got 10 of them out but the others are just not budging. I've been pulling on them with pliers but nothing. please tell me there is another way or a trick anybody has

Bud,,, you are confusing me. you got the camshaft out? isn't this going to be a straight forward form here? all you got left is pull them out one at a time with your fingers.

if they don't come out easily, there may be gunk/sludge build up. use a brake cleaner or degreaser and spray it on there and left it for a few minute and tried again..

dude i have tried pliers and pb blaster, i haven't tried brake cleaner i guess i'll give it a shot. i have a blister forming on my hand from gripping so hard. it's a used head (new to the car). I don't know how long it'd been sitting before i got it.

I just had the same problem. I got them about half was out an they would get stuck, so I pushed them back in an pulled at them again with welpers an after some more tugging they came out basically lubed up the sides of the lifters.

Mine were hard to come out too, I actually ruined a few trying to pull them out, time for 3gs! I used pliers but that will hurt them!

if you are very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very CAREFUL .........use one of those small propane torch bottle jobbers to heat up the area around the lifters, then use some pliers or vice grips and it will 4 sure come out, i would use a rag or something with the pliers or vice grips to avoid damaging them too.

Ive been a tech for 2 years now and if its one thing i have learned is that if something is stuck and you tried everything.......time to get the torch out.....but please since you will be heating up the cylinder head be very very very careful not to heat it up too much, i would barely let the actual torch flame touch the area you are heating and only heat it for a phew seconds at a time. Make sure you heat up the head not the lifters.

But yea if you have tried everything in your arsenal to get those things out, you have no other option other than to use a torch to start expanding the metal. But i cant stress enough to be very very careful not to heat it up too much, it wont take much to break it loose so do not go overboard with it.

Ohh yea...that would be too shakey for me. Spray wd-40 down the sides and let it sit then try and pull them out.

That's crazy. I just changed mine with the cams in and they came right out. No problem at all I just used my fingers to pull them out.

Yes we know that they should come out with ease, but your lifters coming out is not what is being discussed, please follow the rules

well great being as i don't own a propane torch i'm screw. what am i looking at if i just leave them in there and not bleed them?

ok carb cleaner didn't work . I'm gonna try the propane method. what can go wrong if i heat it up to much.

well just to update everyone and for furture people how have this problem I did remove the lifters.
What i did was get some vise-grips and clamped on those bad boys and gently pried on the grips with my pry bar. In doing this be careful that you don't separate the plunger from the actual lifters body because you'll have a bi*** of a time trying to get the body out, trust me I did that. Luckily I inserted the plunger back in and kinda torqued it sideways while I pried up. I also use a little bit of heat via propane to get them out. So I hope this helps some one and good luck if you run into this same problem.
