Ive been seeing in other forums that there is a way to remove sludge from inside the engine. But I wanted to see if any of you have tried it on your cars or any DSM, since not all cars are the same. (Read it on a Honda Forum)

My car has 287k miles and I removed the the oil pan and seems to be some sludge on it. The last guy wasnt to good in doing frequent oil changes. I drained the oil out and looked black, more black than normal.

So I was wondering maybe there is still some sludge in the engine and I want to make the engine last so I want to remove any left over sludge that is still in there.

The theory is that, adding 60% of automatic transmission fluid and 40% engine oil, run the car for about 20-30min than drain it out. That should help you remove any sludge left in the engine. After that, go with some cheap oil but a good filter. Drive the car for about a 100miles than change it out to any oil you would like.

Does this seem possible without causing more harm to the engine? I feel like doing it to mine since it's such high mileage and not really well taken care of. Ill be doing more research on this but what do you guys think

Leave comments or input on this. Is there a thread on here about this? If not, im going to try it and if it works than ill make a thread about this.:D

Run some auto trans fluid in the engine. It will clean the hell out of everything.

Thanks for the answer guys. I seriously forgot about seafoam LOL. Had a dumb moment there. But what would be the cheaper, yet best way to go?

Drop the pan, clean the inside of the pan and the pickup screen thoroughly. Reinstall the pan and do an oil change using 15W40 CI-4 diesel oil. Change the diesel oil every 1500 miles at first, then resume standard service intervals after the 10k mark of using the diesel oil.

You may want to clean the pickup screen again once you've had the diesel oil in the engine for a few changes- this oil tends to loosen sludge and deposits, making them fall into the pan where they'll be picked up by the pump. Keep a close eye on oil pressure at all times.
