I just did the typical thing and jumped from honda to DSM. I like the DSM much better it seems to be built alot stronger. I drive a 1990 TSI AWD. Now i have an issue with it. It seems like bad timing + bad turbo + boost leak. Now i dont know anything about DSMs and ive done research trying to find an answer. My buddy and i both have the same problem cept his is a 92 Convert to a FWD.

1990 AWD Turbo TSI
Manual
NO MODS

I start my car it instantly jumps down to 500 rpm and it idles up n down like trying to stall, it then proceeds to have a major lag to it when i take off at any speed. The car will not go above 5000 RPM. When i get above 3500 RPM in 1st there is a outrageous rattle in the front end like a lose heat shield(which i have checked all and none is lose). The oil filter was lose for about 100 miles but the car was having the problems before hand. When i step on the gas the OEM boost gauge goes up to 4 psi and doesnt move. When i come up to a light and pull it into Neutral the car jumps down to 500 RPM and stalls. The car is a pain in the ass to start. (no check engine Light)

As of now the car will not stay running. and this is the list of things i have checked.

Head gasket
Pistons
Valve cover gasket
Cleaned the Throttle body
cleaned the Intercooler
Checked all air lines going to turbo
Checked the BCS
Air Compression is as follows (Piston 1-138, Piston 2-137, Piston 3-140, Piston 4-142)
Plugs / Wires
Distributor
Catalytic converter
O2 Sensor
Belts (couldnt check timing)

Please get back to me asap, this is my Daily driver. Sorry if i posted in wrong spot im now.

OMG the rofl copter ! I haven't seen that one since 8th grade ! Lol
BTW - that pen idea from whoever put it on that car is pretty cheap and cheesy.
The cost to replace the whole biss screw kit is like seriously under $20. Get it changed.
Also make sure you don't have a dirty fuel filter, fuel injectors or fuel lines that might have debris thuis causing your car to shut off.
Also, are you recirculating your bov ?

Yes the BOV is recirculated and i have checked filter fuel rail injectors and ive cleaned TB and rail and injectors. To me it seems like either too much fuel / air or not enough and a boost leak. So it seems like i may have more then 1 issue. I am trying to get my buddy who lives by the dealer to pick me up a BISS setup. He also ordered a boost leak tester and ill use my neighbors compressor. So i dont know how long this is going to take but untill i have all this is there ANYTHING Else i can check or do to see if thats it.

That pen in the biss was very lose and easly had enough room to let alot of air pass. Plus i dont know if it was adjusted right. Anyone know the site to adjust the Biss correctly i couldnt find it again. The walk through. Thanks.

All of the 4g63 DSM's have them. 90-94 Talon/Laser/Eclipse 2.0 Turbo and NT, and 95-99 Talon/Eclipse Turbo.

What the hell is this thing the round thing. Becuase its lose as dog shit the nut fell off while i had my wife rev my car. Also while she was revving smoke started coming from the turbo manifold and i found this wet spot.

Upon further inspection i came across the wires going to this round unit to be spliced into and electrical taped.

CAS - camshaft angle sensor

Please keep this thread to the original questions you intended to ask. A thread is not meant to have an endless amount of questions whenever you think of them.

This is all about the original thread. Why is my car running like shit, is the initial question. And as i come across things that could effect it i am posting it for someone to help me. Could this CAS make my car stall and idle really rough? Possibly make it feel like no power and a boost leak?

Yes, it can do that. I would make sure the wires are still in good condition (replace sections that may seem iffy) and also make sure the exposed sections aren't touching each other.

You could have found out what that thing was by searching though. Here's a site that may interest you.

Adjusted the CAS 5 degrees idles great after i set it to 750. It still wants to stall when i drive it then come to a stop it sputters down to like 300-400 RPM sometimes lower then shoots back up to 1k down to 750 (assuming boost leak).

I still havent found that loud rattle. Whats a blown turbo sound like?? I have tested shaft and i cannot feel any play. Theres is a leak up there by the turbo, there is some white smoke very little but it smells like something is burnt.

I also have oil in my valve cover?

Well i just also asked the previous owner and he said the BCS was taken out of the car completely and the lines were T'd together from the turbo to the Intake. I dont know what this would do but i dont think it would be any good????

Someone help? I havent figured it out yet. My turbo does sound like a exhaust leak and it does have a little bit of smoke to the turbo coming from behind the lower heat shield, also a really loud rattle, sounds like a lose heat shield and it only rattles above 3500 RPM(im am gonna assume the turbo because thats when it boosts). I dont have any if little white smoke out the exhaust tho. Bad gasket on the turbo? There is definitely something leaking around my turbo. Need help asap.

give me your address and ill ship you one in a manilla envelope. I happen to have an extra one from my 2g TB. Its the plastic version but its better than 30. LOL

And yes if that piece they stuck in there is hollow thats your boost leak. Also if this doesnt fix the problem im sure youve read about the leaking capacitors in the ECU on the 1gs?
