ok i have the whole head off, and its most likely going back on this weekend, is there anything i should/need to do before i put it back on? anything that will help me?

have it milled and install new valve steam seals along with new cam seals and
don't forget to have the machine shop to check for leaky valves.

check your lifters to make sure those are all good. nobody likes noisey lifters. there easy to do if you've got bad ones

i also ordered a set of 3g lifters. but what exactly would the engine mounts do for my car?

They will give you alot more solid feel. and better power transfer. Theres alot of advantages. More for fwd though. They would be worth the 100 bucks

good choice on the 3g lifters and to answer your question about motor mounts, they will decrease body roll and engine rocking they just make everything stiffer and tighter, also allowing for quicker engagment of the clutch getting the power to the ground faster

If your looking to modify your car also, if u havent already, go port and polish the head and make sure you have good parts before you install to save yourself some trouble. I'm having mines redone too!:thumb: But so far everybody's right about what you should do.

Might take the opportunity to change half the stuff on the front of the block...water pump, harmonic balancer, tensioner, tensioner pulley, idler pulley, etc. Check the mini-rebuild tech article in the engine tech article section (I think it was posted by BUCK). It's longer than John Holmes, but gives good details.

I'm doing the same thing right now to get my head decked. So far I'm replacing the lifters, cam seals, re-painting my valve cover with some fresh red, painted my fuel rail to match (rice, rice, rice), cleaning as much of the thermostat housing and everything else that isn't easily accessible with the head on. And definitely clean out the Intake Manifold. I used lots of purple power and engine degreaser in combination with a power washer at the local car wash. :p Did a SUPER job on my cyclone manifold and cleaned out untolds amount of gunk. The plenum looks new and 90% of the other stuff is gone. It was SO deep that I could scrape it off with my finger nail in curls.

Valve stem seals, new exhaust studs. intake manifold gasket, remove EGR

ok well im kinda pissed, but thankful at the time...my dad, while i was at school, took it upon himself to start putting it back. while i was think thanks now i dont have to do it. but then i thought, damn, now i cant clean the intake manifold, because i already replaced gaskets, tensioners belts etc. but i wanna thank all you guys for ## inputs!

Hopefully you had a multi-layer gasket and head studs would be a really good idea if possible ad not to far in

Damn dont you hate when people do things without your permission?...LOL. Well at least he was nice enough to do it too so yeah its a win lose situation. But you can always redo it later.:dsm:
