Header Wrap [Merged 3-8] thermal DEI headers exhaust

I have the wrap on my pacesetter header and downpipe and Ive hod no problems with it. Just make sur eyou get the ties and the silicone spray so the wrap doesnt absorb water and rot out the metal.

High temperatures dont crack manifolds but sudden temperature changes do. Just thow a bucket of cold water on a hot exhaust manifold if you dont believe me. I just wrapped my exhaust manifold, tubular o2 housing and downpipe last weekend. I used 50' x 1" DEI wrap and high temp silicon paint. Temperatures under the hood dropped a lot. I actually saw a slight increase in timing advance from the 6000-7000 rpm range. The only bad thing I noticed is that the exhaust manifold glows bright red ALL the time now underneath the wrap.

im also interested in this...ive also got the agp kit and just wondering if agp will still warranty the manifold from cracking with wrap on it..hopefully they can chime in.

I first wrapped my header then used the silicone spray over it all(header and wrap). I need another can of this stuff, but dunno where to find it  Best thing is your header and wrap are now black and it doesnt burn off, like paint.

i would stay away from exhaust wrap, unless you put it on after the turbo.

i wrapped up my stock cast iron manifold, and it got hot enough to warp on me...since then ive been running without the wrap, egts have been down a hundred celsius, and my ole vents help with the new engine bay heat.

Changing my headers (greddy 4-2-1 :D ) Wanna ditch my heat shield. Also getting a evo style vis cf hood. Should I thermal wrap? Is it necessary?

i need to get a hood, might as well go cf LOL.

I was going to get it now, but a certain wet kit stood in my way, o well its getting here soon WOOT WOOT LOL

EDIT: whered u get the hood? LOL

   way to answer the question mike  :p

some guy put some numbers up of the effect of thermal wrap... for each X amount of degrees the under hood temperature is lowered, you get X amount of hp. search for it, but if his numbers were right its very effective.

Hey guys,
I have my downpipe off my 2g tsi awd and was wondering if it would be benificial to use heat wrap on the downpipe. Maybe not the whole thing but just the first foot or so.
Any reply is appreciated, thanks

anything you do to keep heet out of the engine bay has benifits.
will ya notice/feel a diff ? no.

Cool man, thanks for the reply :thumb: . I just got a new downpipe and cat and i was thinkin it would be a good idea to do it now. The manifold is next. :talon:

heat wrap is always a good idea, it helps insolate heat, its great on your exhasut manifold for keeping things like your alterntor wires or fans from melting when you take your heat sheild off. i dont know if it would help much with your downpipe, unless you've replaced your downpipe with an aftermarket 2.5 or 3in, the only benifit i could see would be to prevent the oil filter from getting to hot, of melting.

Thats what I was thinkin'. The downpipe is a 2.5" and I have a 6 bolt in the car. It comes a little close to the oil lines and filter so i'm gonna do it. not really looking for increase performance, just being safe. :thumb:
