its actually the opposite it keeps your turbo hotter so your gases flow more rapidly which in theory should produce more power.
Flow velocity is coincidental to turbocharger efficiency. Heat energy is what matters. Wrapping manifolds keeps more heat in which has to pass through the turbo. You may also find the service life of the manifold is reduced.

This doesn't go over the manifold, it wraps around the turbing housing of the turbo only. I'll take a pic later today of his wrapped.

Well i got a 2g exhaust manifold and no heat shield and i want to know if i can just heat wrap it. I have done this on other apps but i was just wondering if this would work i wanna do all the way down the hot side to the turbo.

I have never seen anyone heatwrap a OEM style 2g manifold I think it would be pretty hard to get it wrapped very well.If anything paint it with some really high temp paint or get it jethot coated

I used COOL-IT fiberglass blanket style turbo wrap on my evo 3 manifold/ turbo hotside which is basiclly the same thing and saw a increase in EGT temps by at least 200-300 degrees.

One thing that will lower underhood temps until you can add a heatshield is VHT hi-temp paint. Go with black as this will attract heat and make sure you properly clean it before painting. I used the 2000 degree variety and it worked well for me. You can also shoot the hot side of the turbo and the O2.

heatwrap is usually applied in tubular manifolds, becuase it is made out of a different material that the stock iron, and conducts heat better and allows for better flow, thus why it gets hotter.
Ive never really seen a OEM manifold wrapped before, that would be kind of interesting.

Well i did a search and dident find what i wasn looking for but i just kinda like the look of flat black heat wrap and i think i could wrap it i have done it befour well any first hand experience but i might try the paint thing.

Painting works very well and won't trap moisture like heat wrap will. Take a look at the motor shot in my gallery and you can see how well VHT does.

Andy

i wouldnt heat wrap because taking it off (for future upgrades) would be a bi***. every time you wanted to change your turbo (everyone should do this at least twice in there life, once because the stock turbo is too small, and a second time because they made the wrong decision the first time) you would have to unwrap it to get to the bolts. female dog with no leash

that vht paint is beautiful, and now i just have to search for my name and paint to get there name when i finally buy an sbr exhaust manifold.

Andy, did you have to cure the manifold in an oven after you painted it or did you just paint it and install it?

:thumb: OK guys i have painted and baked it and now here are some pic's: thumb:

I can attest to the moisture in the heat wrap. While I had the stuff on a 2gnt header I had to re-wrap the header after about a year. The second time I wrapped the thing it held together alot better. But it is still subject to wrotting off basically. A heat shield or paint would probably be the best long term solution here.

Nope, I just made sure it was clean and painted it on the motor. I let it idle for 10 minutes, cooled it and than ran it for 30 minutes and allowed for another cool down. The heat and cool down cycles actually help the paint cure and become more resistant to checmicals.

i've heatwrapped twice.
the first time i just used the black DEI wrap kept it really tight used the proper overlap and all. and it held up fine, but after taking the manifold off a couple of times(everytime you handle it the oils in your skin or the motor oil or grease on your hands gets soaked into the fabric. then when you start her up and drive again all the oil and grease burns out of the wrap, and it actually weakens the material.
the third time i took it off, it was wasted. so i unwrapped it(everything crumbled into a pile of dust)
when i rewrapped it this time, i did like before, except i used latex gloves(you should anyways cause its fiberglass)
and after it was wrapped, i sprayed it down with their recommended high tempurature silcone coating. put a nice thick coat over the whole manifold and let it soak in and dry.

it lasted a long long time that way.
i've since gone to a sbr cast iron manifold, but my entire downpipe is still wrapped and coated in silicone. looks great,
the silicone repels water. keeps everything nice and dry.
the downpipe has been wrapped for over a year.
no problems. i drive my car every day, even in the snow and road salt.

where do u get the wrap at?

you can get it form summit, ebay, other places may have it.
ebay has by far the cheapest prices on it.
make sure to get a can or two of the silicone spray.
i think i paid 20 bucks for 50ft of 2" wide wrap.
but the 1" wide is much better for manifolds. but for your exhaust the 2" is perfect.
i used about 14 feet of 2 inch for my manifold, then wrapped my lower charge pipes, my o2 and my entire downpipe w/ 50 ft of the 2"

i would like to ditch all the stock metal heat shielding in the exhaust tunnel and wrap the entire exhaust back to the muffler w/ wrap, if nothing less it saves weight, but who knows it might make a difference. LOL.
i would only do it cause its just so cheap. and if i had the extra laying around, why not.
i don't mind going over kill on the cheap stuff.

:thumb: Im looking for very high heat turbo manifold heat wrap. Everything i look at is only good for 1000 degress farenheight (sp) and id like to get it in black as well Thanks if you cna help me out!

you can gt DEI wrap for nothing on ebay.
thats where i always get it. i have the black too.
make sure you get the silicone spray for it or its going to get brittle and fall apart eventually.

i used 2" for my manifold, but i'd reccomend the 1" cause you can get it on tighter in the more intricate curves of a manifold. but for downpipe and exhaust i used 2" wide.
i think i got 50 feet for 20 shipped or something like that. it was a while back.
makes a big difference under the hood though.

with a 50'x2" kit, i had enought to wrap my manifold, o2 housing, lower charge pipes, and most of my downpipe.

The stuf im looking at on ebay says its only good for 1200 farenheight(sp) so that would be no good for me right???
