I just wanted to check quick when putting on a head aren't you suppose to tighten the studs from the center out? I can't find my Chilton. Also I searched and didn't see a article on it.

Thanks

I took a picture of my manual: hope it helps

Yes I believe you torque them from the inside out but there is also 3 steps in doing it, 30lb then 60lb then 90lb I believe.

There are two dowel pin on the top of the block, that's probably what it is stuck on. A few light taps on the side of the head with a rubber mallet should pop it loose.

YOu know what's weird, my service manual from chiltons shows a different pattern LOL It really only matters that you evenly work outwards from the center, but to see another pattern actually on paper is kinda funny to see when they say it's "so vital" to do exactly as shown haha

The sequence pictured in post #4 is a for a 420A. The 4G63 sequence is correct in post #17 of the link 007jimmy provided which probably matches what your Chilton's shows. :)

Looking at the engine from the front end of the car, the removal sequence is as follows starting from the outside (1) and moving inwards (10):
4-6-9-7-1
2-8-10-5-3

Looking at the engine from the front end of the car, the tightening sequence is just the opposite -- starting from the middle (1) and moving outwards (10):
7-5-2-4-10
9-3-1-6-8
