head salvageable?

I recently reinstalled a refinished head on my 1g to find out that I did the timing wrong and seized my engine. I trusted my mechanic friend with this part of the job and, needless to say, we got it wrong. An expensive mistake, I know. Anyways, I just got everything ripped apart again to assess the actual damage. Cylinder three and two have the damage. The valves snapped off, got stuck in one of the pistons and scrapped the head. My question is: are these parts salvageable or do I need totally new head and totally new pistons?

Can you provide us with some pictures? Anytime you remove and reinstall timin belt you must turn the engine over by hand serveral times and double check that all timing marks fall back into place. You never ever just throw the belt on and go straight for them keys and start it. Post up some pics of the damage. More than likely you smoked it

I would keep it for parts, and buy a new head. They are a dime a dozen. Hit the bone yard too, na heads will work too.

The pistons are junk. The head could be repaired, but for the cost you can most likely get a new core. The cylinder walls also have to be inspected for damage.

Honestly I would not try to fix that head. For the price that you would pay to fix it, you could get another good head so its not worth the hassle. Also, this did not happen at idle...did it?

Was this at idle? I would just at it safe and get a new longblock.

I second that! I would pull it out get a cheap 6bokt long block and sell what us good from this motor. You will be better off for sure.

I don't see how you'd repair the head without grinding it down and losing compression. It's pretty much shot IMO. Pistons as well. Time for upgrades.

They can add the material back to the head with welding and machining, but since it's not exactly the rarest cylinder head in the world, I think it would be a waste.

As for the pistons, probably not a chance.

This was at idle. I had the head resurfaced and messed up the timing, thus the problem you see above. Thanks for the input yos!

But like stated above, get a new casting. Unless it is some high dollar ported head.
