Im installing ARP headstuds, cosmetic headgasket and when I go to put my head over the ARP studs I cant get the water pipe lined up and the head ends up being tilted

Are the pins aligned correctly? Is the HG in correct orientation?
Check if you can turn the hg over and have the holes align. It can only go on one way and have all the holes line up just right. There are a couple that will probably be slightly covered on the block, as some of them reduce as they enter the head. Also make sure you have the correct year HG for that head and block.

the headgasket is on properly and ARP studs are in the correct holes, but when I go to slide the head over the studs the water pipe doesn't align up with the head. I tried loosening the bolt on the front of the engine that holds the water pipe so I could move the water pipe around, but still off by about a quarter of an inch.
