head gasket problems

how hard is it to change a blown head gasket, my head gasket has blown and ive looked through the forums and couldnt find one on how to change it. the mechanic has my car right now and said he would charge me 900 dallors to change the head gasket? now if anyone can tell me a better price and were? then i would gladly go if its way under 500 or if someone can show me how then that would be awesome also.

Head gasket change on 97 N/T was the single most difficult repair I've ever done. I would pull the whole engine first next time.

Edit: And I paid over $500 for parts (including T-Belt, rollers, tensioner and water pump).
