Hi,

I just changed my head gasket and I ran into a few problems after it was completed. First thing is the idle jumped up to about 1200. I have bno idea why. Also, my oil pressure is a bit higher, like at the top of the oil pressure symbol on the guage. The car is sounding real bubbly on deceleration(sp?) and reaks of gas.

The only problems I had when reinstalling everything was I only had 3 bolts to bolt the turbo up because I broke one and I couldn't remember which of the two vacuum line went to the fuel pressure regulator. I know one goes to the regulator and one goes to the intake but I can't remember which one. Right now I have the one with the blue stripe on the regulator.

Any help is appreciated,

i'll try and offer some help:

The RPM's will be higher if you disconnected your battery since the ECU's memory gets cleared. just re set your idle with the screw on the screw on the throttle body. The ECU learns as you drive so when it loses power it has to relearn AF mixtures and such.

How high is your oil pressure? if the old gasket was blocking off oil passages because it was burned or they were clogged in the head then cleaning it would increase oil pressure a little. If oil pressure is like a little higher like a few psi then don't worry about it.

Under deceleration you might be running too rich or lean - if you have a vac leak that will definitely cause a bad idle and deceleration - but once you're cruising or accelerating you won't really notice it.

having only 3 bolts on the turbo could cause an exhaust leak - usually you can hear it though. Just go get another bolt and install that.

the fuel pressure solenoid uses the vac line from the manifold - not throttle body as the source. then 1 line comes out of it at the other end to the fuel pressure regulator. the ones form teh throttle body go to the evap can solenoid and egr.

hope some of this helps - i'm bored at work and pulling it all out of my head - i've had all of these problems.

I don't know the psi difference, but the difference is about 1/4 of an inch on the stock guage. Looks like I have the regulator hooked up correctly from the link you gave me, thanks. It sounds like I have a vacuum leak. I reused the old intake manifold gasket. I didn't get a chance to pressure test it so I have no idea if it is holding or not. If that was leaking, that would give me the rich sounding exhaust and high idle wouldn't it? I have a new gasket coming in today, so that will be fixed tonight. As far as the turbo manifold bolt, it won't come in until tuesday unfortunately. So it'll have to do until then.

As ar as decelleration, its taking away fuel according to the pocketlogger on decelleration as usual, I have no idea if that is accurate or not tho. Its -5% if that helps with another - 2-3% on the LTFT.

So what do you think?Would a leaky intake manifold gasket cause the problems I am describing.

Thanks again for your help.

hey i just edited my post abou the FPR - make sure you disregard what i said before

a leaking gasket would definitely make you run really rich - horrible idle and deceleration. it would also make the car feel sluggish under acceleration.

ok cool. so it comes from the nipple on the right side of the manifold to the solenoid, then off the right side of the solenoid to the regullator. It has a blue stripe on it , I think that is the one that goes on the regulator.

Thanks again for your help

edit: Idle isn't really horrible, just high. Steady at 1000-1100. Doesn't surge. The decelleration sounds like I have 720cc injectors in there tho.

Just wanted to let you know, it was the intake manifold gasket. Thanks for your help man, car runs beautifully now :thumb:
