So I just rebuilt my engine 3 days ago. Make a long story short I didn't buy a new timing belt tensioner :ohdamn: . You can guess what happened. I just ordered a new head and timing belt kit and was wondering if I could use the New head bolts I put in 3 days ago with the rebuild? They are new OEM Bolts. Reason why I'm asking is cause I'm running low on cash.

It is commonly accepted that the 12mm 1g/6bolt head bolts can be reused after checked for stretch.

Who did you get the head from? Have pics of it?

Depending on their condition you might be able to get away with reusing them. Obviously it would be a better idea to replace them. While you are in there I would highly recommended throwing in some arp's so you don't have to worry about it down the road.

Any torque to yield should be replaced any time they are fastened and go through heat cycle. I know it sounds expensive but cheaper then pulling the head off again! Remember this isn't an n/a grocery getter.

Yes TTY bolt are pull once and trash, The 7bolt 11mm head bolt is a TTY, with a TTY torque spec. w/ a degree pull, common to most all TTY style bolts I have come across

The 6bolt with 12mm head bolts, is old school, just a torque spec, no degree pull to them.

Thanks Guys for the Input I was away from my cpu not long after I posted all day till now and since they are 3 days old I would love to reuse them but it comes down to cash plain and simple and since I just rebuilt everything except the tensioner and now I'm rebuilding the top half again 3 days later funds are low. I got another 700 in parts I just ordered reman. head, gates timing belt kit, water pump , v.c. gasket, head gasket, timing belt tensioner and maybe head bolts along with other small stuff. If I have the loot I'm a grab em but if I don't I cant. But arp's are definitely the next buck I'm spending. Keep em Redlining.

Oh Yea How do you check for stretch?

Please listen to what Bogus said, and stop spreading the false information that 1g 6 bolt head bolts are TTY. They are not. That started with the 7 bolt designs. Check the service manual(s).

Measure the length of the shank and compare to the original spec (below).

6-bolt: 84mm
7-bolt: 97mm

I thought that there was a broader range than that for re-use? I can't remember where I read that. Maybe my FSM? I am reusing mine for sure since they met whatever criteria I read. They most certainly are not TTY.
