:confused::confused:ok, this is whats going on.... car starts up fine, i let it heat up then i took it for a spin. when it goes under boost when shifting gears it spits out smoke. I have changed the turbo 3 times, Changed the Headgasket, valve seals. I don't know what else to do, Im about to sell it then it wont give me no more headaches. Ive searched the forum and they all say the same thing, could be turbo, could be headgasket, done it all... any ideas??? sometimes the smoke smells like coolant, then sometimes it smells like oil, WTF????? can the turbo burn coolant? Im running out of options here, anyone?:confused::confused:

btw engine is pretty much stock except for bov.
 
idles around 900rpm-1200rpm, boost gauge shows consistant -20 some people say when it goes up or down on the gauge theres a leak, but it stays on -20. is that true?
 
i had a small leak on my intecooler pipe and my exhaust was smokin until i tied them up,
what i would do is check that first and see what happen, small leak could make different.
 
Ok i live in ohio and i am ready to purchase my first dsm. ifound one that i really like its a 90 eagle talon tsi AWD for a 1000 bucks newly rebuilt engine tranny drivtrain etc.. with alot of new mods worth well over 1000. The only problem is that after the engine has been started for a while it cuts off. It does crank over so there is a spark and runs strong it ran mid 12s when it was driven. so my question is what are some possible causes for this along with deatil and cost to get it drivable. i really would like to buy this car asap. please help me with this issue before i go and buy it. oh yeah and the reason its soo cheap is beacuse he is leaving the area and has another car that hes keeping other than the talon. thanks

if it shuts down right after startup i would assume the least first which would be a boost/vac leak.
 
the car stays running after being started just cuts off after warming up i would say but it does not cut off immediatly after start. if u want i can post the page and the mods if that would help any to narrow it down.
 
Compression test results....
on all 4 cylinders, I got around 140. is that good?

Now what??
Generally i dont worry too much about the psi , but more so the consistency between the cylinders . as to the smoking issue , what color is the smoke ? The color will help narrow down the suggestions on where / what to check .

correction the engine wasnt rebuilt or tranny etc.. but it does have 150- 160 thousand miles on it. but im going to post the ad minus the guys number and some personal info

91 EAGLE TALON TSI MODS - $1000




this is a 1991 eagle talon TSI 5spd all wheel drive project car. this car runs strong but kills its self after awhile so the car will have to be towed away.i don't have the exact miles on the car right now it is at my moms house. i need to sell this car im going away to the air force and i only get to take one car with me and its only smart to take the 06 stratus we have b/c i have a wife and 2 kids. has many aftermarket parts on it and many spare parts for it.

Has:
galant transmission
act 2600 clutch
16g turbo
greddy type s bov
external waste gate
manual boost controller
550cc injectors
new valve cover gasket
new plugs and wires
3inch GM MAF
MAF translator box
3 inch apexi exhaust
walbro 255 lph fuel pump
evo 3 half shafts
brand new still in the box front mount intercooler
brand new still in the box hard piping for intercooler
spare motor with motor stand ready to be built
back seat has been taken out with carpet common weight reduction. but still have the seat if you want it

spare 14g turbo
spare hood
spare engine wireharness
DSM repair manual and FAQ disc
turbo timer
boost gauge
oil gauge
temp gauge

fast car last ran at track was mid 12's with a side mount intercooler and intake leak at 23lbs boost. which this car runs 23lbs boost all day everyday and loves it. over 5000 in performance parts put on it over 1000 in spare parts some rust parts but can be easly patched. over 1000 in brand new parts. only serious people please this needs to go before i leave! 1000obo just called and got the miles is either 150837 or 160837 they can't read it for sure b/c the door is locked and i have the keys but still car is well worth what i am asking
 
thats what i was thinking especially for parts even if i do find another i can part it out and pay for another talon. my issue is i want to get it running so i can get back and forth to work ( down the street but too far to walk) because later i want to either get the engine rebuit or wait till winter adn learn how to do it. i just graduuated from hs and been waiting for my first project car and this model car has been on my mind for a year. Plus here in dayton i have seen one done correctly and i want to show these chevy and ford boys what the potential is for these cars. i mean they are so bad i have beatin them in my stock mercury tracer lts 4dr.(R.I.P). but i am going to call the guy tomm and talk to him to see if there are any other issues. and do they make a diagnostic kit for it i know for the newer cars they can just plug em in and tell u whats wrong or going to be wrong.?

hahaha my bad i am new to this forum andi i aint know how to start a new one and i didnt have the time to find out was way too tired it was like 2am. and when i saw that car i had to get some quick advice. to some poteintial fixes. My bad zander92talon
