Having a problem...

Hey, im new to the site, had my tsi for about 15 months, about a month ago i started hearing a thud thud thud with the wheel rotation speed from the rear end, in a month it shread my 90% tread left tires into nothing on the rear end only, and the noise is still there. new tires and alignment checked yesterday, and whenever i go over a bumb he whole rear end wants to shift over on its own, wondering if anyone has a suggetsion or seen this problem before.

If it's that bad it should be pretty easy to find. Put your car on jackstands, get underneath, and start pulling and wriggling on things to look for play. I'm not familiar with rear suspension geometry on an AWD, but be sure to check all control arms, axle, wheel bearing, and anything that has a bushing on it.

And keep in mind that for an AWD you need similarly worn tires of the same size of the same model from the same manufacturer. Anything else will cause premature wearing of your differential.

It only happens when you hit bumps, right? I'd check the upper control arms on both sides. See if the rubber bushings(I think they're rubber) are in good shape, or there at all. On mine, the rubber was shredded, and when I would hit a hard bump, the arm would contact the tire (or that's my best guess, there were marks on the inside of the tire...sidewall area) on the passenger side. It would make a loud clunk sound.

I'd jack it up remove the tires and check all of the suspension. Just my two cents. Good luck!
