On my recently purchased 2gb Tsi awd I've noticed that I have to turn the key pretty hard to start. She starts right up, the starters fairly new, runs fine, etc. Battery is also good with aftermarket terminals. Could this just be a ground wire problem or an ignition relay going bad, or another problem.

if by turning the key pretty hard to start means you have to use force to get the key to turn then the problem is with your key or ignition tumbler.

You can take a small hammer and with the key in the ignition give it a tiny tap on the end of the key, see if the keys inside the tumbler fall into place and make it easier to turn then you know its the tumbler.

sometimes the keys just get very worn, try getting a new key cut first.

You can also try taking it to a locksmith and have them cut a key from the tumbler.

Also some places and people at those places, cut keys better than others. Just my experience. Someone may have gunked it up on you. Could try taking it out and cleaning and lubing.

I have this same issue and My key looks pretty worn. They also make a i guess you could call it tumblr grease? It's for locking mechanisms. it's a spay that worked wonders on a bike I owned. Haven't tried it yet but I plan on it when i get some time.
