. . . It "displays live data such as o2 sensors, ignition timing, rpm. . ." For the ebay price, this would be one of the more affordable logger setups out there. I am interested in using this with my brothers 2g project. Has anyone used this? Are the sample rates fast enough to see knock (sudden timing drop)? Does any one know about these?

OBDII w/ Live Data

I have never used this unit, but all the OBD2 loggers max out around ~10 samples/sec.

You can view items in real time with this, but you can't log data(save to file for future viewing).

I had a PocketLogger(OBD2) setup for while, even with two people(one driving & one tuning), trying to decode the timing to find knock was near impossible and you are never 100% sure what is going on.

Later I got a chip that displayed knock in the boost gauge and lit up my CEL at 7 counts. This made tuning a hundred times easier. But I still had to watch the knock gauge, logger, and wideband at the same time, and couldn't save all the info together to study later.

Now I have EvoScan, you can log all the stuff you can with a 1G(knock) and hook up a wideband and log that also. I can drive now without trying to look at four things at once, then study the log after pulling over. The sample rate for 95-96 isn't that good(~10 samples/sec), but it is the best thing we have right now. The cable is a little bit of an investment($100), but you can reflash your friends Evos and Subbies with it.

I know I didn't really answer your question, just passing on my experience with 2G loggers.

Great point. It's hard enough viewing my scanmaster3 in a 1g car which displays knock sum and flashes with the higher counts. I think I will get the ElmScan ISO USB Scan Tool. I can actually record data into my laptop for later view with tunerstein using this tool according to this. Does anyone else log this way, or do I have to take only one guys word on it?

The OBD2 logging on the 2G is slow and doesn't give the info you need.

A MUT based logger is what you what for a 2G.

One of my LS2 buddies is letting me borrow a "Dash Hawk". I looked at the obd port on the 2g and pins 6 and 14 are populated. This means that it has a CAN bus. And it is entirely likely that it will work with the 2g. The dashhawk has a high data sampling rate (VERY high). It shows data live. And also records the stream for download to a PC/laptop through usb. All the perameters are there (rpm, o2, maf, timing). Inputs to log wideband and others. This looks promising. It also has an accurate 0-60 & 1/4 mile calculator. . . But it's $300. LOL so I'm just going to borrow it. If I get this motor bolted down by this weekend, I'll let everyone know how it does.
