Well ill start off by saying ive got a 92 nt talin 2.0 and did the turbo conversion with everything.from a turbo 1g since ive got a 1g. I put on my t3 t4 and ran really good until yesterday mornong it started to smoke pretty bad. I didnt think much of it since i was thinking hey its really cold and i just put my oil pan on last night and could just be burning off oil. But then after work was even worse. And then i was thinking that hey i just need to hurry and get home to check out whats going on. So there i was last night i took off my brand new downpipe and looked up into the o2 and it was just caked with oil. Ive heard of people just rebuilding them so i called a couple local shops that do alot of import work and turbo work and asked about turbo rebuilds. He told me that its basically a waste of time brcuase your have to balance the shaft as well so you can buy a rebuild kit and do it but it will just go back out in about 6 months. So i was wanting to see what you guys have done in my situation. Any help would be really sweet. And my turbo is the garret 57 trim t3 t4 if that helps any. Thanks in advance.

Nah, every one I've ever rebuilt in the past 7+ years blew up instantly after installing it.

I'd like to know where your local import shop is coming up with "it will just go back out in about 6 months". That's like saying rebuilt engines aren't reliable...it's either going to last as good as it would from the factory, or it will not make boost from the moment it's bolted to the manifold. There's no middle-ground...unless you're a PTE owner. LOL

This is of course assuming the rebuild is done correctly and there is no excessive oil pressure of evidence of oil contamination, and the oil drain is large enough and free of any kinks / restriction.

There is plenty of videos to help you rebuuild a turbo, youtube, or even on here there is maybe a thread or two! Its not too hard i rebuilt my first turbo at 16 with help from youtube. :hellyeah:

Another thing you might wanna invest in is a turbo timer, it lets your oil lines cool down after you run the pi$$ outta the car and pull the key out and walk away, it will keep runnin to prevent your oil lines from clogging up.

Hope i helped!!

Well 1 shop perficular is fusion race works here in wichita. But they might have also said that to get me to buy 1 of there turbos. For a new t3 t4 he told me about 850

Yes both of you were very helpful. I do want to invest in a turbo timer. Other thibgs are on the list to go 1st thought.

And i was also wondering if i could have cuased this from running my oil feed from my oil filter housing. I heard that ball bearing turbos do not need alot of oil pressure to function but i do not beleive my t3 t4 is a ball bearing turbo. But could that still be the cuase of it going out?

No your t3/t4 turbo is not a ball bearing turbo, those are a very pretty penny. I have a 14b running on my 2g, feed line from the oil filter housing using a stainless steel flexible line, i have no problem, even on my buddies 20g bastard turbo on his 2g he has no problem, it was most likely blown turbo seals. I do need to go! Or else I would explain more to you! Ill be back in a few hours!

If it were me, I'd rebuild it. Its not that hard if there is no damage from excessive shaft play. Find the appropriate rebuild kit for it G-Pop Shop Then watch the video on youtube about rebuilding turbos. I hope it works out for you.

Unless you do not have self control to drive easy for the last few miles to your destination then a turbo timer is un needed.

That makes since also. I really dont drive hard at all. I mean i get on it but i still have alot more respect for my talon than that seeming how much ive put in to it. Us dsmer's have always taken better care that most honda owners.:thumb:

Like tron said, its fairly easy to rebuild just takes patience. So get a kit and should only take an hour or so. I have a turbo timer because I get on it alot and when you run it hard then get to where u need to be and shut if off that can clog the oil lines. As liquid said you can take it easy for a few miles before you destination untill you can afford one. Remember YOUTUBE YOUTUBE YOUTUBE! Lol, be sure to take time, let us know if you need anything! OH also if you want to buy a new turbo, I have a few t25's laying around and a few 14b's. The 14b's I have need rebuilt. I can sell it to you and you pay for a kit to rebuild it in the price and ill rebuild it and send you a fresh one. If you have any problems ill reinstate you and fix it.
Hope this helps!

Ill keep that in mind. Thanks. Ill try to rebuilt my t3 t4 and see how it goes. I was also just gazing in disbelefe that it just looks so good with the urbo under the hood now and thinking how much work it will be to take the t3 t4 out and hoping it will be worth it in the end. And at the time noticed that the return line was a little kinked. Could that has cuased it if it wouldnt drain fast enough. As stated in the post above. Its 5/8 ths inch hydralic hose for my return.

Ahh, There ya go. Youve now found the problem. Now its time for a rebuild for the turbo and i suggest some SS turbo lines! They look AWESOME since I installed them, freaking awesome.. LOL
Well good luck! Let me know if you have any problems.

well the term rebuild should be used when any given component is still serviceable and with in spec, but once it meets service hours of use or mileage it should be rebuilt to maintain its acceptable tolerances "in this case the turbo parts for play"

if you want to rebuild a turbo that's bad you might be wasting your time, because maybe the bearing or sleeves are worn and has elongated the housing for it, therefore putting a new bearing sleeve or any part onto a worn out/out of spec housing is pointless. before any rebuild all items being reuse should be inspected thoroughly for allowable tolerances to re-install in lieu of replace.

Ill be starting on the tare down tomarrow to inspect the parts. Id rather pay 40 bucks over 800 for a new turbo anyday. *fingures crossed*
