I'm trying to sort out some vibration issues with my gst...from about 30mph till ~6000rpm in second gear it vibrates pretty severely when you floor it. But it only does it 3/4s or the time. Seems isolated to the drivers side front, the mirror shakes and it shakes the hell out of the window when its rolled down.

There is no noticeable play anywhere in the front suspension. But I still get a "clunk!" from hard forward and backwards movement on the front left wheel, which I think might be related. When I brake hard, right before I stop it clunks once, then when I roll backwards it clunks once again.

Could either of these things be the cause? My axles move around a bit, I don't know if this is normal. And also there is a small chip of the harmonic balancer. Should I replace it?

I've replaced everything in the front end except the sway bar, subframe bushings (are there any in the front of these cars?) and wheel bearings (which check out ok..) There is no noticeable play anywhere in the front suspension. But I still get a "clunk!" from hard forward and backwards stress on the front left wheel, which I think might be related. When I brake hard, right before I stop it clunks, then when I roll backwards it clunks once again.

Please don't say balance your wheels, I know what that feels like and it usually happens at 60+, constantly, not just under acceleration...anyway..

Any help is appreciated!

I don't know about the axle but that's not ok.

Regarding the balancer, mine had the exact same chip however mine was wobbling when then car was running so I replaced it. As soon as I replaced it the car seemed to run smoother with less vibration.

Start your car and check the balancer. If it's vibrating, then replace it. You can use a block of wood and press it against the side of the balancer with the engine running. If you feel a significant vibration though the wood then definitely replace the balancer.

FYI: The "balancer" is actually a torsion damper.
