Mississauga,
Tried another friends car, realized mine is a tad hard to shift into. I looked at other threads. Should i possibly try to bleed the line, and change the fluid?

btw its into every gear, and sometimes makes a grinding sound going into reverse. Like you go to shift and it just does a grinding noise.. you try again, works fine.

Thanks:)

its actually always been like that since i bought. a times it seems a lot worse. couple days ago was a pain to drive. hard to shift into first.

My tranny did the exact same thing. First i just started double clutching into third ### that was the worst but then when i swapped out my clutch i put in some redline mt 90 and it shifts so much better. Its crazy i dont even know how it works so good but I know my tranny only has 66k on it i duno about yours but if you have alot of miles on your tranny put in bg sycroshift. redlines not good for high mileage trannys.

ya check the cables and bleed like they said....

Not to try to get you worrying or anything... But mine was sorta like this as well before when my ACT 2100 clutch shit the bed..... Was hard shifting into gears sometimes while driving, not all the time though, and reverse was just weird since I got my car.... Most of the time its fine but here and there I need to bring it back up and pull it back down into R for it to get in there totally... I think I remember reading a long time ago that thats just how it is with some DSMs (for R that is) .... correct me if im wrong..

Then one day I came home, parked my car came out 10min later and couldnt drive it because 5 fingers decided to break off the pp.... Mind you this is because the 2100 was defective (5 months) old.... sending it back, hopefully for a refund/replacement.....

thanks for the responses!

ill be checking the shift linkages.

how hard is it to bleed the lines? could a person whos relatively new to cars be able to do?

what type of oil would you recommend putting in a car with ~70000 miles..

if it helps, the clutch was installed by a mechanic last year.

BZZT! I've got a tranny with over 166k miles on it and I have Redline MT-90 in that thing..best thing I ever did.

Do a search within these forums on how to drain, install fluid and bleed clutch lines (same as doing brakes..just simpler). If you're somewhat of a mechnical bent sort of person, it should come pretty easy. But, if looks overwhelming, best let someone more professional do this task for you.

good luck-DSM

redline is the only tranny fluid i can find near me. Some local shop sells it? Would that work out alright?

I did find out how to bleed. Looks fairly simple.

All I can say is that I'm pleased with doing the Redline changeout for the fluid that was in their previously (which was black and very nasty looking) made the change from hard shifting with occasional syncro grind to buttery smooth shifting and no grind.

For Redline is one of the more proven aftermarket fluids out there for transmissions.

Thus, I can safely say, you'd be okey to do Redline - tranny ain't suddenly going to fall apart if wrong fluid is put in. If tranny doesn't like it, it will let you know with the conditions above.

Good luck-DSM

Well thats good that your tranny likes redline at 166k miles but on other posts other people havent had the same luck as you. The point is just change out the fluid with something better and the top two are bg and redline. I run redline in my car and it runs awesome now. These dsms are crazy and no two cars are exactly the same LOL.

check your linkage, and change your clutch fluid. another option to help with it is do the skateboard bearing upgrade on your shifter cable bushings...should be able to find a posting on here. it's pretty cheap and pretty easy to do. made my shifting on my 1g a whole lot better!!

changed the clutch fluid. Made it a bit easier. Still hard to shift into 1,2 and R can be weird sometimes. haven't seen a post on how to adjust the shift linkage on a 2g or fix that problem.

look at the shifter bushings on the transmission end of the shifter cables. My 1g was hard to shift into 1st, 2nd, and reverse...found out that the bushings were messed up(the round metal peice that the transmission arms connected to were oval, not round!!). I did the skateboard bearing upgrade(you push out the old cruddy rubber shifter bushings on the cables and push in the skate board bearings), and the improvement was amazing!!

I haven't done it on my 2g yet, but I wouldn't think it's all that much different. you should still be able to do that upgrade for the shifter cables...if it's the same as a 1g's shifter bearing, then you need 4 of the Number 5 size skate board bearings.

also, I'd think about just changing out your tranny fluid...it could be crappy stuff in there, or over full...or not full enough.

i have the tranny fluid. bought some redline. Will be switching tomorrow. Doubt thats it though cause it doesnt grind, but ill change anyways.

would buying the shifter kit help? (the bushings..to replace the rubber) not to sure on what to get in order to make my shifting better.

I think those shifter bushing kits, that replace those factory rubber bushings, work great!! improved the feel on my shifting alot. it doesn't hurt to try.
