my 97 eclipse gst is having a problem. It doesn't want to go into first gear unless i put it into a different gear first (IE 2nd gear). After that is shifts like butter. If i try to put it into first comming to a stop it goes in nicely at slower speeds (less then 10 miles per hour). I changed my transmission fluid to syncromesh and it feels nice and smooth but i still have the same problem with it not wanting to go into first gear. What could be the problem and what is the solution to the problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, every DSM i've seen does that. I have to put it in 2nd before first.

i have the same problem, have the slave cylinder replaced and STILL the same problem.

I also have a problem where if i'm driving more than exactly 20 mph i can't put it into 1st gear but once i'm below 20 mph it will go in fine without grinding. All my other cars don't do this but my DSM does it. Any suggestions ?

I believe it was due to the compactness requirement during the desing process of our transmission, but basically our transmissions had to made sacrifices in the syncro area because of other things. AKA-They aren't very good....

i have the same problem and it sucks.....
is there any solution to this?
