I am building a piping kit for my fmic and was wondering if anyone has cut their compressor elbow on the stock t25/t28 housing to face the driver side instead of the passenger side to ease in the fmic piping?? instead of the elbow facing to the passenger side, cutting, it off, and coupling it back on facing the opposite direction like is shown in the picture. Is it possible to reuse the piece that is cut off, has anyone done it, and is it even possible to cut it and have enough surface for a coupler? I really would rather not weld it, i dont even want to take the turbo off of the car, just chop it off and couple it back on :confused: any ideas?
 
yes i have done that...not on a t25 cause i dont think it would be worth the trouble ROFL ...um..what i would do is find someone in your area who is able (and really good at) aluminum welding. Tell him/her that you want to take the 90degree off...and make it so that the pipe is straight...
so you want to go from this (looking at the pipe where the intercooler pipe would go)

then you would buy or bend some pipes to a 90 degree andgo that way...
 
Insane. I never heard of anyone doing a FMIC with a T25. Hmm.

Anyways - I would atleast wait like the others said because you might even see a performance decrease instead of increase. Atleast upgrade to a 20G or something. ROFL
 
Well its a t28, but a rebuilt bigt28 out of a t25 core from forced performance, which is why i said t25 housing, didnt mean to start a flaming war jesus... but yea thanks to my95tsi and spookcorleone for being complete *sses. If what your posting isnt on topic dont bother posting, your wasting my time. And as a side note, how can you possibly tell me i'm going to lose power without knowing the dimensions or design of the core?? Just to prove you wrong if you would like, that i wouldnt lose power even if on a stock turbo, check out the thread about the JRC intercooler thread, 33 pages with datalogs/dsmlink, pictures and i believe dyno's... so unless you've run my exact core off of a t25 i dont want to hear that i would lose power. BTW I DONT EVEN HAVE A T25!

all i want to know is can it be done safely without taking the turbo off of the car or without welding? Because if not i'm gonna have to come up with some other plan
 
If you plan on cutting the elbow off and 're-attaching' it, it will need to be welded, and that will require you to fully remove the turbo from the motor. But you could cut the elbow off and make the turbo a downfiring turbo, and either get that Dejon Tool kit or get just a 90* silicon elbow like what SBR includes with their FMIC kits. After cutting off the existing elbow from the T25/T28, I believe it would be too small to clamp it on facing the other way. I considered do this last year when I installed my side-to-side FMIC, but I ended up going with a 14b instead of the T25.....
 
Ok Pri*&k. There's no need to be an as#h^le. How old are you 16-17? You sure sound like it so i wouldn't even tell anyone your real age. You were not specific in your explanation. And yes a fmic will lose power for a t25. The turbo is very small and it doens't matter how big or small the intercooler is, its the extra mile in piping that makes the difference. Why even upgrade to a fmic? why not just upgrade to a bigger sidemount? You must like the look. You are also one of those kids who likes to hear there bov too, I bet. As far a jerry-rigging you turbo, why don't you just do it the right way. Kid :notgood:

alright tough guy, go ahead and flex your internet muscle.... for the record i'm 22, i havent updated my mod profile in about 6 months, and if you want to talk about 'jerry-rigging' a car, lets talk about your 'cut shifter' and lowering springs on gr2's... at least this would serve a purpose. So stop posting in this thread and leave it alone, i'm asking a legitimate question and your not going anywhere near a legitimate response

and on a side note, im going with aluminum short route piping, and a recirculated 1g bov
 
I was thinking about the same thing w/my frontmount and t-25 combo, keep us updated on how it works out man. BTW on the power loss w/FMIC&T-25 please colder air=MORE HORSEPOWER PERIOD :thumb: So you get lag, so what you get colder air going in your engine which in turn keeps the ecu from pulling as much timing as say the hot air coming from your stock smic which even the tiny t-25 can heatsoak after a couple good pulls. After back to back to back 15psi runs you can feel the IC inlet pipe HOT the outlet pipe STONE COLD, but then again maybe that's because I did short route piping and I have a spearco core w/custom flow designed end tanks :sneaky:
 
a better intercooler helps out in any turbo application, be it t25 or 3065.

itll take a wee bit longer to hit full boost, but the cooler air at the top end over heatsoaking a smic will make it worth it. theres a guy in my town with a greddy 24r and a t25@18psi, 3" catback, hard ic pipes, Type S bov, thats it. he made a srt4 look bad. i raced that same guy on 20psi with my t25 and no fmic and same other mods and lost. so it does help.(btw then i got my evo3 setup and fmic and tore that srt4 and the t25fmic eclipse to shreds at the same light, but thats another story)

and no running a fmic will not kill a t25. running 25psi+ will kill a t25. i ran 20psi on my t25 from jan 04 to jan 05(when i went evo16g) and it had no shaft play at all, and looked almost brand new.
 
thank you to both of you, well explained. however, i am not running the core on a t25, but lag shouldnt be an issue anyway considering the core is only 25x8x2.5" and i have short route piping on a fast spooling t28. I tried looking into a U bend with an almost 0* turning radius to try and route the piping above the cross-member, but no-one has a bender with those capabilities. basically, i'm screwed
 
the reason why you would have to cut that elbow is that you probably would not have enough pipe left to put a coupler on there, you might be able to get away with whats left but it might slide off under boost.....ill post some pics of my turbo.
I bought slowboyracings SBRGT10 with a 90deg elbow (used) and i have the dj FMIC so i needed to get rid of that elbow...
ill show you when i take a pick
