hi i am wanting to put a gt42r turbo on my 93 talon FWD. i would like to know what i would need to run this setup saftely at about 25psi to 30psi. i alreadr have a full msd igniton, wires and coils and ngk plugs. i have a rebuilt motor with about 4000 miles on it. and it has a forged crank arp rod bolts with the strong iron rods, forged pistons, the motor is bored out, it has a HKS 4 layer metal head gasket, arp head studs, and a stock but all brand new head and all hardware in it. a catch can, manuel boost contorller, solid motor mounts, 550cc injectors, and high flow fuel filter. what else would i need to run my Gt42R setup i want safetly?

thank you to anyone who helps me out!

LOL

You want to jump from a 16g to a 42r. That is awesome, and you only want to run a 42r at 25-30psi. I have seen a few pump gas 42r setups making like 600+ whp, however who wants to wait till 6k to make power(Unless fullblown track car). You also need to rev your motor way past 9k, 10k would be the best.

You are not ready for a 42r. Dont waste you rmoney just so you can say I have a 42.

If I were you would would upgrade to an FP Green(~400hp) or an FP Red(~500hp) or a FP 3052(~500hp) and start there.

Good Luck, post pics of the build :).

I definately agree with the above^^^. Those 42's are whole different kind of animal, especially going from a 16G. Perosnally I've owned an SCM61, GT4082, and currently GT42...I went this big because Im a glutten for punishment. These turbos are way fun, but real laggy, so don't expect trying to race people up and down the blvd. Good luck with the build.

10s all day long? there's 1 or 2. There's a HUGE epic difference between 11.99 and 10.99. Yes the evo3 16g does the 11.99 all day every day with a decent setup. . . But I've been look at this thread for a while and I too agree that there's no good reason for the op to ugprade to a turbo this large, nor has he pushed the 16g to it's limit. . .

According to dsmtimes.org there 55 car 11.99 and quicker. And I know for a fact that list isnt updated with ALL the guys running 16g's...

Is everyone going 10's on a 16g no way. Can it be done? Sure can.

Consistent mid to high 11's is the norm on E85 and 93 octane...

Yes. That is exactly what I said. I agree.

All day long 10s? he should upgrade. Are you suggesting he stick with a 16g to go 10s? He'd be better off upgrading for sure. You said 10s and 11s all day. Like I said, it's a huge jump there between the two. I gather this isn't a track only car. He's better of getting a bigger turbo, than paying twice as much in manifold upgrades, compression, and head work to get a 16g to a 10.99.

I'm not arguing, more just trying to get clarification.

Yes there are 16g cars that go 10's all day long. They are usually running race gas and have some serious weight reduction. Are there a ton? No I agree. Is it the turbo I would choose to do it with? No. Unless I was building some street sleeper.

I'd be looking into 30/35R variations as they are much easier to meet the 10 sec goal.

A holset would be more suited to your needs than a gigantic 42r, and FWD is going to get old real fast once you start making some decent power.

As the saying goes, if you have to ask you aren't ready to do it. Do your own research, you will tank me later. You will learn more and understand more a lot better. Being spoon fed will only lead to headaches later.

The 42R is way too BIG for Your Engine
It's gonna Lag like Hell, unless You Run on Nos or Compound setup and Heavily modified engine
Currently I'm running this 42R on 2JZ,3.4 stroker, spool up at 4700 RPM
Maybe You should start researching and ask Yourself, what's Your Goal

I haven't read any other posts (by the OP) but it seems like a gt42 (4294, 4294r, 4202, or 4202r) is what he feels is "the best" turbo out there for a DSM. No offense to the OP, but what cars have you driven on the street (horsepower wise)? Just trying to get an idea of your experience. If you've only driven a 220whp fwd DSM, a gt42 is going to upset you (money vs results wise)...

Get the full supporting mods for your 16G and run 25+psi with a good tune. You'll already be burning your front tires off on the street. The really fast FWD's are not street cars. It takes slicks and suspension work to make a FWD launch.

If your timeslip info is up to date, you're a long ways from needing any kind of turbo upgrade; make the most of the turbo you have now. Learn how to drive and do suspension work, get some really awesome tires and an LSD, and strip unnecessary crap out of your car, then get more power out of your current turbo.
