Gsx needs a new head... just another thing on the list

Welp ive finally got off my butt and started to see what the heck has been wrong with my car, and after i did a compression test cylinder 1 only is making 70 psi... looks like its time for a new head! i already have another one, and me and my buddy are going to knock it out this weekend..

Im almost positive its the valves because its not blowing any smoke and the car doesnt leak antifreeze or overheat, so there goes the chances of a gasket or bad ring, but im going to replace the head gasket while im in there..

Another thing im wondering is, should i fix my bad head and sell it to pay for the new head and gasket?

Atleast i got my valve cover painted and it looks amazing so thats a plus i guess

It is possible it could be the head gasket. But that will get replaced with the swap anyways. You should be able to have your local machine shop test the head to see if it is good after it is removed.

As for fixing it and selling it for a nother head, Why fix it and sell it for a different working head? Why not just fix it and keep it for a spare?

A leak down test would show more and get you pointed in the right direction.

What happens if you swap heads and still have low compression?

Do you know what shape the head is in that you want to install?

How do you know it is good?

I agree with Bogus, do a leak down test so you know for sure.

As he alluded to, it would suck if you spent the money to rebuild the head and replace the HG, spent the time to do the work, got it back together and find out the problem is in the bottom end and you have to start over.
