Over Heating issues with the GSX
That's right...It keeps over heating. I put a C&R aluminum radiator with a spal fan, I installed a 170 degree thermostat and when I drive on long stretches of road like the highway it gets hot and spews coolant out of the over flow. Now in town driving its fine but as soon as I run it on the highway it gets warm ????
Any suggestions?

New water pump is on and the problem still exists.. A friend said he had a problem with a partially clogged heater core once and it had the same symptoms. So I'm gonna by pass it and see what happens....I'm not rulling out a head gasket issue just trying to take care of the simplier things.
1g in a 2g swapped motor+changinf water pump = not fun

Have you done a compression test yet? What were your numbers? It takes seriously 5 mins and then you can rule that out. I am willing to bet $100 that its your headgasket. Have you checked your oil for signs of coolant? There is no point of just fixing eveything and seeing what fixes your problems. Do some tests such as a compression test or leak down test and pin point your problem so you know what to fix. It is just costing you money and time fixing other stuff when there is nothing wrong with it. If you are going to ask for help its problably a good idea to listen, a few people have told you to do a compression test and that its probably your headgasket. Coolant spraying out of your overflow is one of the most common signs of a headgasket failure. Even the shop told you its probably your headgasket. If you don't have a compression tester you can buy one for like $20-30 or have a shop do it for like $30-40.

But who knows I could be wrong it has happened before

Alright alright I'll do the compression test.......Other people said it was the water pump too and that wasnt it......But ok I'll do the compression test.....I'm listening to everyone I just dont wanna accept that I might have to tear the damn head off when I just got the whole thing back together.........Thanx for EVERYONES advice

yeah i mean it sucks but you want to know. If you keep overheating and warp your head or if you oil is all watery while you keep driving it you are going to have bigger problems. Let us know what your numbers are

On this same note I have a 95 TSi that I'm struggling with overheating issues. I have a new water pump, fans, and now 195 degree thermostat, but the temperature guage still bounces around quite a bit, and it's never done that before. I just got done doing my 6-bolt swap into this car, so it just got a brand new Mitsu metal headgasket, so that can't be it. Like Super16G I have the summit overflow tank, do you think that it has anything to do with that? Since it can't easily suck the fluid back up if it needs it? Or do you think that I should be looking for blockages in the cooling system, or what do you guys suggest to me?

our stock cap was bad....When I had the pressure test done he checked it and said it was bad and that most people dont realise that it can make that much of a difference ..So check it out
Our other problem still exists but it corrected one thing.:dsm:

So if the cap is bad you're saying that the air will leak out of there that is under pressure correct? Not necessarily leaking fluid though. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I had the same problem man, not even long ago. My compression numbers were not quiet that high, but still in the 130's which is above service limit and still, it was a warped head. By now you've pretty much ruled out everything else, it's time to get yourself a hand and spent the time tearing off the head. Get a straight edge and those gauge feelers and check for warpage.

By the way, do you have higher compression pistons? Because 180 is pretty good!

The compression is high cause we have 9 to 1 wiseco's in there and the 180 was at every single cylinder. If there was a variance then I could see a problem. Maybe the timing??????? On my logger I got 6 degrees of timing at 804 rpm.we have the hks 264 cams but the car kinda seems like its laboring at idle....Any more ideas?

Wow I can't believe it wasn't the headgasket. Good and bad I guess at least you don't have to replace it but you still don't know what it is.

The only other I can think of is that your head is lifting a little at high speeds (like the highway) maybe you should check the torque on your head studs if you haven't already. But I don't know I thought for sure it was your headgasket

what is your justification for pulling the head when we had a PERFECT compression test?...and no other signs of a bad gasket, ie. smoke, coolant in the oil.
its a new oem headgasket

I wouldn't think it is the head gasket. What kind of studs are you using? If you are using oem studs they might have stretched a little bit. I would check the torque on the head studs and maybe put some arps in there but I don't think you "blew" your head gasket.

I didn't have perfect compression, but good compression, at least above service limit. I neither had oil in my coolant or vice versa. No smoke, etc ... just always lost coolant through the overflow bottle. Never blew off the radiator cap, etc ... my overflow bottle was just always overflowing. I decided not to tear off the head and kept driving for 4-6 more weeks when finally I could only drive about 10 minutes until the complete cooling system and radiator were empty, without any smoke, oil in my coolant or vice versa.

Replaced the alt. belt (stretched), torqued the head down and am running the factory radiator and fans...
Drove it around not getting on it and on a fairly good stretch of road. Run it a 60 mph for about 15minutes to 20 and the car seemed to behave. Autometer gauge said between 206 and 210.Never got hotter then 210...What does your car run at temp. wise???
