I recently installed an evo3 16g with all new oem gaskets on my 1998 gst eclipse 7bolt. After I installed the turbo I started the car and it wouldn't make any boost.
The turbos not a ebay knock off I purchased it from a friend so I no its in working condition and it has no shaft play.
What could the problem be ?
Thanks!

Yes I have a Grimm Speed MBC. I've drove the car around and it just wont build any boost. Iwas thinking maybe the wastegate was bad. Due they just go bad? If so is there a test I can due?

Thanks for the quick responds.

I'd check the wastegate... I had a wastegate stuck open on a SR20det before and couldn't build boost kinda like your describing. Good luck.

yea if you wanted to try and test the wastegate alone, you can take it off and hook a vacuum line from the wastegate port to a compressed air source (air compressor). if the wastegate arm moves in and out at whatever pressure wastegate you have then it is good, probably something like 12psi. Check for boost leaks obviously, and if you have an exhaust leak pre turbo that could also keep you from building boost.

a boost leak is probably out of the question, a leak would still allow boost to be made just not a lot, does your boost gauge(assuming you have one) go to 0lbs as in enough pressure to take away the vacuum or it just doesn't move at all. make sure that all lines are connected, no boost is very hard to do.

You'd be surprised at the boost leaks I've seen. They can be so bad it doesn't build at all.

Is the wastegate adjustable?

hm, im new to dsm so im only going off of my boces experience. what about an exhaust gasket either at the manifold or the turbo housing?

It has to be a pre-turbo exhaust leak, however, unless it's got a giant hole in it, it'll still build some boost. He'd have to have forgot both gaskets and have a cracked manifold to see zero pressure.

Boost leak! Nuff said.

Jk man, im gonna go with zach on this one. A boost leak would at least get you 5lb to 1lb for a big one, but 0 is kind of tough to get. Check all your intercooler clamps which is where alot of boost can creep out. Small vacuum leaks or small hoses will not keep it at 0.

well, have you been in any accidents or any other stuff while working one it. maybe if you have friends like mine, someone put a hole in your intercooler accidently. here is a fun test to do. have a friend sit outside the car and listen for leaks at idle. or if you are by yourself. start the car and pop the hood. get a can of break cleaner, carb cleaner, ether, anything flammable. and spray it on all hose clamps one at a time. if you hear the rpms rise than there is your leak. just be careful and keep a fire extinguisher close.

Yes I have a boost gauge and it will move to 0 when I rev the engine up to about 3500 rpm. I haven't had time to really work to much on the car this week so I will keep everyone updated when I get back to work on it this weekend. I replaced all new gaskets from Extreme PSI so I couldn't see that being a problem but you never no.
Thanks a lot guys!

Lets see a few various pictures. This is really too broad of a question.. Like basic turbocharger theory is not understood broad. There's only a midgets handful of reasons you'd have this problem.

the only way I know that you're going to you Spool a turbo and not build boost is if you have an intercooler Cupler off or the waste gate is stuck open. I would start there.

Does the car run and idle like normal?

I had one that the round flapper on the waste gate had moved up where it wasn't sealing like its suppose to but youll need to take it off to see
