I picked up a 98 gst spyder with 110,000 miles my problem with it is that it's an automatic. I want to do an awd manual conversion can I use an talon or something else as a donor car? Gsxs are too expensive

It can be an overwhelming task. There are many things to do so if you don't have a donor car you are looking for parts and the time to swap it all and hope you have all of the fasteners and what not. The swap you are contemplating is not for the average joe but it can be done.
And welcome to the forum :thumb:

If you are not overly attached to the FWD dsm, you might consider finding an AWD car with a blown motor or something to that regard; especially if you are not confident in doing the swap. Motor swaps are straight forward and can be done pretty casually and fairly quickly. (obviously some sort of mechanical abilities are needed)
This site is good for tracking down wanted cars, if you are willing to travel it makes it easier

Good luck on the wrenching!

Ive considered going that route but i read that the doing the wire harness on an engine swap was more difficult than swapping to awd. Thanks for the site though i was having a hard time finding a doner!

If the donor/shell has the wiring harness; it is actually pretty simple. Just label the wires and sensors (label the donor too); an hour or two of labeling saves so much headache. If the donor doesn't have a wiring harness... I would assume it would be a headache however. In the end it's your call but it was not bad when I did mine. Just passing some info :thumb: Welcome to the site!

I am actually in the process of converting my GST to AWD and it is very time consuming. Also if you are missing any parts or tools needed it can be very frustrating. I am also doing this swap by myself and I am upgrading some parts along the way so I don't have to redo anything in the near future.

If you go forward with your plan, and time available is low, consider doing the swap in stages. I swapped my spyder to awd back in February and I didn't have a lot of time since my wife and I needed both our cars for work, and couldn't manage with only 1. I stripped everything I needed from my donor GSX and split the work up into different weekends while still driving it during the week. The first weekend, I swapped the fuel system and rear subframe assembly. I could drive the car with these swapped and still run the fwd drivetrain. It worked out and the following weekend I swapped the transmission and the rest of the drivetrain. I didn't need to do auto to manual since my spyder was already manual. It is a lot of work, but for the most part it's pretty straight forward as long as you do research prior to removing the first bolt. And although it's probably better to do the entire project at once, you still do have the option to split it up if needed, as long as you don't do the transmission and driveshaft parts first.
