Ground question?

So I have a stock infinity sound system in my 98 gst that the radion didn't work when I got it. Right now I'm trying to diag it out of the car and need to know if anyone knows how to ground this puppy? According to the to the wiring diagram it is a body ground and I think I can jus ground strap the body of the radio to a good ground and be ok but not a 100 % sure and like to get a few opinions in such cases. Thanks.

Find the ground wire in radio harness and ground it directly to frame, works for any aftermarket radio i dont see why it wouldnt on a stocker.

Frame to frame ground should be ok, because the stereo frame itself connects inside to the stereo wiring ground.. Best thing is what 1stgenracer1993 said and find the ground wire in the stereo harness and connect it to the car frame/ground.

there isnt a ground in the harness. like there isnt a pin coming out of the back of the radio specifically designated for a ground on the stock infinity head unit. i know a lil bit about a lil bit on aftermarket radios and i have one in my car now that a had laying around i just really like the stock on ( retarted i know) and i had to run the ground wire to the body because there isnt one in the vehicle harness. The stock harness (the one attached to the car) is an 14 pin harness A 12v constant a 12v switched a power ant a dimmer an illumination and 8 wires to speakers. no listed pin for a ground.

stock ground on the car harness is the dark blue wire. grounding the car to the body of the radio should work just fine.

the only blue wire in my harness is the 12v switched (hot when the key is on) I have grey/red, yellow/red-rr speaker; grey/blue yellow/blue-LR speaker blue-12 switched; red-12 constant; black/yellow-dimmer; black/blue+white/blue-LF speaker; black/red white red RF speaker; white/black-power ant. again thats the harness in the car but i agree that as long as its grounded some way or the other it should be ok at least thats what my past electronics experience is telling me.

I had a feeling you didn't have a ground wire present from the stereo..yea ground that sucker frame to frame..

I couldn't find my ground ether.... I just ground frame to frame and have had no problems at all.

clipping a ground wire to the body of the radio worked for a ground but radio still doesnt work. so at the root of the issue were solved but i dont know about the radio itself. cd player excepts cds and i heard that turn on so i got power but i cant get the radio itself to turn on. oh well ill keep at it.

I know for a fact that there are radios out there that if you don't have the antenna hooked into the stereo then it will not even let you do anything with the radio. Just an idea. Keep at it, you will figure it out.

Any other stereo around to test things like the antenna/wiring

i have another radio in the car so the antennea works if thats what you asking i just really like the stock infinity radio. i opened a new thread about what ive found after opening this thing up. looks like someone pushed a little hard on the power button and broke the pc board. any ideas one how to fix it.

Depends if it ruined any traces in the board. I would need a good pic to answer properly.

i clipped a jumper wire on two points across the crack and got continuity after word when i didnt have any before so i think if i can solder a jumper in permentantly that will work. This is gonna be a project to kinda see if i can do it no big loss if it doesnt work since it was broke before.

soldered the connections had more going on than i did before but i there may have been damage that was unrepairable. i went from nothing to the display turning on but no working radio. there was a crack across 6-7 wires. it was worth a try to fix no lose really. someone had told me that there may be a trace wire break that isnt fixable. maybe ill be looking for someone with another broken head unit they want to get rid of. topic for another day.
