Got my stereo all wired up and did the wiring harness and all. But on the harness there is no ground... Do I run my own ground from the stereo or is the Antenna plug the ground?

it never hurts to put in a ground from the chasis of the stereo to a good gound location.the anntenna isnt all that great.

Ok, I was gonna run it to the ebrake bolt since I have all that off at the moment

Good place or no?

Ok, so now i need help. Amp reads protect and not power... I think my ground is the problem. Sound right?

I put it on bolt on bottom of hatch floor, metal one on driver side. But it was a little frayed since it was such a big bolt.

is there paint underneath the bolt or raw metal? if there's paint, that could cause grounding problems. Also, go to any hardware store (ala home depo) and you can buy these 'U' shaped things where you can put a bolt though, and crimp a wire onto one end to ground it easily. it sound like your just wrapping the wire around the bolt = not a good idea in the long run. do it right the first time :)

The factory system grounds through the chassis. It has no separate ground wire.

Yeah u should get those Us or rings cuz when u tighten the bolt it might start cutting the wire and one day come off.

I did have the openended U thing. It wasn't big enough for it, so I got forced by time to do what I could. I went up to advanced and got me two O ring connectors. When I had the bare wire I got "protect" instead of power. Now I get nothing with connector, and not even spark when it first touches it. So I think the paint is the thing. I just need to find a better spot or scrape the paint. Either way no bump 2nite.
