Okay so i'm pretty sure im posting this in the wrong section but i couldnt find the correct place to post..

i have a 92 1G AWD

i purchased a set of slightly used coilovers from a member of this website, well after he shipped them i only received the Ground Control sleeves and springs but didnt get the struts like he said he sent (got lost in the mail apparently) btw never got refunded for my purchase either instead he just ignores my calls / text and i dont have his name on here anymore..

so anyways i have these coilover sleeves and need struts for them, my problem i'm running into is the diameter of the springs for the front are half the size of the stock front springs and when i look up struts they are obviously made to fit my vehicle with the stock springs.

i've contacted Ground Control and according to them every set your order are made specifically to work together so without having the struts that should be with them for reference according to them i'm ####ed.... i find it really hard to believe that they can't tell me what struts i need by giving them the dimensions of my springs and also my specific vehicle..

so now my finally resort i'm asking for help, does anyone know where i can find or who i can contact to get a set of 4 new struts that will fit a ground control coilover sleeve with a diamater of 3.5" ???

i would really like a set of fully adjustable struts like some AGX's.

Thank You

The Ground Controls just slide onto the stock style struts....they don't use the oem spring perch

the sleeves sit on the notch that the perch normally sits on. the adjustment sliders that go on the sleeves are where the spring sits hence the adjustability of height. and yea they arent the same size as stock springs. much smaller. look up the part number from the sleeves. or did you already do that and call them.
the springs will be fine. the sleeves are what fit the strut by specific makes.

So is the spring perch removable?

The ground control threaded sleeves fit over the shock, usually loosely from what I've seen, and typically they will sit on the original spring perch in some way. Sometimes the threaded sleeves will be cut/shaped so they conform to the shock's spring perch so as to provide even support on the bottom. Now the threaded sleeves are typically loose as they are made for multiple applications and not perfect for one, and usually have some pieces to fit them to a given diameter shock body. I've seen this include a metal sleeve plus some o-rings (yes, big and thick o-rings) to take up the slack and keep the sleeve snug and centered on the shock body.

It's these details, the shaping of the bottom of the perch, possibly the diameter of the sleeves themselves, and the fitment pieces, that are unique to a specific shock. Even if you choose another possibly compatible shock to the sleeves you have the shape of the bottom of the threaded sleeve would have to match the shock's perch (either you get lucky and it fits, or you re-shape it yourself) and then you would still have to ask GC to sell you fitment pieces for the shock. This is why GC can't help you until you have a shock chosen.

I'm on my phone so I can't upload a picture of a replacement shock for a 1g eclipse but look at the spring perch on one its at least twice the size of the GC sleeves I have. I do not want to purchase a shock with a spring perch that is not even close to the size of my springs I don't feel that it would be safe by any means. The photo that was uploaded earlier by someone else is how I want my combination to look like. So my question continues can I buy struts that bolt onto my car that don't have the massive spring perch that holds a stock spring.

On 1G's the front sleeve rests on the perch. However, you usually need to cut it away so that you can tighten the set screw. The VFAQ shows the rears resting on the perch, but they may have since altered the design so that you cut away the perch. If so, there would be a lip halfway down the inside of the sleeve that rests on what's left of the perch.

Okay that was very helpful. So I just need to cut away everything I won't be using... Wish I didn't have to cut at a brand new strut though. Figured someone made a strut that didn't have the massive spring perch.

Thank you!
