On the front case side. Underneath the crank shaft seal.

The back side of the seal runs in the groove.

I assume this is not normal?

I wont be replacing the crank or taking it out so should I:

1. Ignore it, install a new seal and put it back together.

2. Install a seal with a larger inner diameter

3. Install a seal with a larger depth (so it's not running in the groove)

4. Fill the groove with RTV and reinstall

5. Fill the groove with JB weld

Or can anyone suggest something better?

Thanks

Shaft Size Maximum: 0.789 in. (20.04 mm.)
Width: 0.313 in. (7.95 mm.)
Overall Width: 0.433 in. (11 mm.)
Flange Outside Diameter: 0.999 in. (25.37 mm.)
Installed Depth: 2 in. (50.8 mm.)

That may be good for the rear BS, but it will not fit the crank

The shaft diamentions are below 1 inch.

Another fix is to remove the spring from the inside of the seal. Twist it and the spring will unhook. You can then cut a couple coils off it and put it back together to tighten up the seal. Chances are it won't leak with what you have right there.

I think i'd just slap a new seal on it call it a day.. oem

if the groove was caused by the seal it self, this may have contributed to an oil leak , but a worn seal will cause a leak as well. I bet a new seal will ride tight in the groove but if not your probably gunna need a tighter seal, or one that rides out of the groove. Or you just buy a new crank. Im sure there is a process to restore a factory finish to the surface but it might expensive.
