Well i pulled my turbo apart about 2 weeks ago cause i was getting oil blowing threw my ic and all.I ruled out the possibility of it being blow by,pcv valve and all that other crap. So when i pulled the turbo apart and looked at the shaft it had a horrible groove in it.I'm pretty sure that was my problem. But I'm going to replace the shaft soon and I have a rebuild kit with new bearings and all.Has anyone had this problem before?I want to make sure it was just the bearing grooving it so i don't buy the shaft and put it back together with the rebuild kit,and it happen again.Cause then I'm going to end up ghost riding my car into a tree ROFL My car runs perfect but this turbo has made my car sit for about 3 weeks now and i don't have the cash to fork out for another 16g.I just ain't looking to waist money if someone has been threw this and replaced these parts and it did it again.

Thanks

The only thing that would cause a bronze bearing to score a steel shaft is lack of lubrication....end of story. If you put this turbo together and it's properly lubricated while it's on the car, you will be just fine.

Be sure to use compressed air to get all of the metal out of the journals and oil supply holes. You don't want something like this:

It's hard to see, but that's bearing material left in the journal's oil supply. This would wipe out new bearings in no time.

It's an MHI turbo, so make sure you're using a 1G hard metal oil supply line from the head. These turbos do not like to be drawn from the filter housing. The 14B's were drawn from the head on all 1G's, and many have logged 150k+ miles without a failure on daily driven DSM's.

Yes, the bearing wore into it. It happened on two of my 16G turbos.. most likely from the car burning oil and I may have run low at one point. Hopefully your compressor wheel didn't rub the housing like mine did. I ended up buying a new wheel and turbine shaft though (from this guy who posted before me). Here's a pic of the wear on my old shaft:

My other shaft was alot worse.

Thanks guys.I got the turbo with the car for dirt cheap so replacing the parts will still be half of what one cost to buy a brand new 16g and it wasn't on the car but a few weeks.I guess the kid starved it of oil or something.I'll make sure to clean it out and check everything.I have two 14b center sections i was going to sell but i wanted to get input on this before i sold them LOL.
thanks again I'm gonna go clean it out and get ready to order my shaft:thumb:
